Benfranklin, who are you????

Ben,

You have posted on this forum many times with your "diet suggestions". You have a wife with ovarian cancer????but still have no profile. Basically, we have NO information about you. Although your diet suggestions may be "pure hearted" and with good will I think you can understand our hesitation about you (sorry, ladies, for speaking for you). I guess, basically, we (I) want to know your agenda. If you are selling something...please back away. If not, please "show" yourself to us. How is your wife? How is the family handling her disease? Is there anything we can do for you outside of embrassing the gerson diet? I don't mean to make you feel bad, but "things" have happened on this Forum, and I choose to watch out for my friends.

Sincerely,
Shari

I must confess that I bought the ****** Therapy book when I was first diagnosed. However, I soon realized how complicated and expensive the whole diet plan is. You need to have loads of fresh fruit/veg drinks and I think I worked out that it meant using at least 20 pounds in weight of fruit/veg per day! As this would have to be organic produce, goodness knows what the daily cost would be. You also need an industrial sized juicer, a separate sink and plenty of people to help in the peeling and juicing. That's before you even think about the coffee enemas!!! I do agree that fresh fruit and veg are good for you but as for the rest - I think it has all been said here.

One lame snake oil product after another will make it on the sh*t list (guess they got  Marty's reports) and what good will it do when they find out they can't advertise ****** on this forum.  Ha Ha Ha

Thanks for getting the ball rolling.  It really freaks me out that there are some royal ***holes out there preying on innocent people. Well, I guess we made one loud roar (way to go, Jan) that was heard by MedHelp and we got rid of some excess baggage. Way to watch each others' backs, ladies!  God, I love this group! Judie

Come on guys, any suspicious characters have to be reported or this will continue.
We can chase them off....maybe temporarily, but you need to "use the system" if we want any hope of eliminating these types.

Jan,

It has been a long day (job stress...not enough exercise and not enough sleep!) and so I will use that as an excuse, but Jan, you brought tears to my eyes.

OK...maybe I don't need an excuse, huh? You're the best!

Love, Mary

Shari,

Thanks for taking on this task and dealing with it so profoundly...and, to all....taking care of us...of the forum...It is an honor to be a part of this group.

Be aware that he may come back under another name. We have/had a poster on the heart disease board that had his particular rant about cholesterol and was pushing a certain book. He kept coming back under other names. It took MedHelp a bit of time but they got that one off the board. I found it easier to just report him and ignore him. He wants the audience.

I have a scientific background and knew the emails were dodgy but even when my brain says it is nonesense, my heart still is hurt when people imply or outright tell me that I caused this cancer by having a beer, liking sweets or eating meat. It felt good to read the well thought out posts and pull together as one voice.
That was brilliant, and so empowering.

I do have a question about the routine for getting rid of these obnoxious people.  I have been clicking the report this/abuse button for some time on his posts,  and wondered if MedHelp uses that for checking on the creditbility of a poster?  I am so glad he is gone.

I posted earlier under star's research , but since Ben may come here I will repost. I noticed you said you cooked 9 hrs a day for your wife. I think that is commendable to say the least. However i don't happen to have anyone free to cook for me for hours a day, and after chemo I don't want to see food for days. I do rely on mu husband to cook or bring me something then. I researched ******. Johanna Budwigs diet with linseed oil and cottage cheese, the volcanic drops that supposedly remove toxins. alkaline diets, all these things. But the reality is if they did work, I would not be able to find and prepare these things and do the chemo. So I guess I can only eat as healthy as possible in the meantime. The other thing was the white count. My white count was 9.7  before my last chemo. It was  3.2 the chemo before. I take 2 or 3 neupogen shots and it comes back up. So if your wife's was o.k. before chemo and low after chemo, what does that mean?  (Mine is normal if I am not on chemo. )  Regardless of our differences ,I do hope your wife continues to do well and wish the best for her.

I have to agree with everyone above. The main reason being as for all of us on chemo know, we cannot just put ourselves on any diet that we choose. We tend to base things like that on what our Dr reccomends for us. And so far i have never heard anyone say that their Dr has reccomended such a diet as you are pushing. I also feel that it would be nice to know some of your wifes story, esp since this forum is for those of us with cancer.(Yes we do have caregivers also but they share their thought and insights into this diease, and help us as much as they can) None of here are being rude or hateful, but as Shari said, we tend to watch out for each other and all that you seem to be worried about is pushing this diet. What about your wife?

First off, I believe that God provided us with everything we need to maintain a healthy, well balanced diet, including meat. I also believe that our current bad eating habits have had a catastrophic affect on our country's health.  I believe children have more food allergies because they are not exposed to nature enough to build up natural immunities.  I believe that obesity is responsible for a multitude of health problems and that by eating sensibly and losing weight one can cure or dramatically control a number of illnesses and diseases, not the least of which is type 2 diabetes.  I believe that eating & serving whole foods are the healthiest choices we can make for ourselves and our families.  I say all of this because I too would like for all of my friends to make healthy choices for themselves, and in particular my friends with cancer.  I encourage my friends who are in chemo to drink copious amounts of cranberry juice, because a Rutgers Univ study showed that cancer cells treated with cranberry juice (even as little as 27% juice) prior to being injected with chemo drugs were 6 times more likely to die than those not treated.  I don't know if drinking it helps or if you would have to inject all of our cells with the juice, but it couldn't hurt.  You see Ben that is the problem we have here.  You are not just suggesting a simple harmless juice, you are PUSHING potentially dangerous, unproven and expensive therapies and that is of great concern to me.

Of your 23 posts, on only one do we get the slightest glimpse of your wife's situation.  I would think that if your wife had or has cancer you would be full of questions or at least sharing the true and complete story of HER personal struggles and ordeals of having cancer.  Also, I assume that like most people you found your way to this site looking for support, and answers to some of the most basic questions that every caregiver on here asks, yet you have asked no real questions or even indicated any need of support.

Of the 23 posts that you have contributed (and the use of that word is questionable) to, you not only mention, but give the web address for this ****** diet 17 times and on more than one occasion you either alluded to this being a cure or came right out and said it was a cure for cancer.  You mention nutrition in an additional 5 posts, which would be fine were it not for the scare tactic employed when you stated that Drs are powerless to stop recurrences because they refuse to look to nutrition, which YOU SAY, is the root or outright cause of cancer and numerous other diseases.  On more than one post you have implied that it is/was the nutritional aspects of your wife's care that  caused the "miraculous" drop in her CA125 in addtion to "...what benefit there may be from what the Drs do", which of course implies that the Dr really did very little to contribute to your wife's very successful drop in her marker level in spite of surgery and chemotherapy.

On another post you suggested yet another website as a gathering place for our get together this summer, complete with web address.  On a completely different forum (on MedHelp) you directed people to YET ANOTHER website where they could cure their ills by going to a clinic where they charge an arm and a leg for dangerous, unproven, & highly questionable techniques for curing just about whatever you tell them you have.  I have been coming on this forum for over 2 years and of the 473 posts I have contributed to I have only directed my friends to a handful of other sites, none of which wanted money from them.  They were either humorous videos or studies on OvCa conducted by respected institutions.   You have been coming on this forum for only a short while, yet you have so helpfully directed the forum members to numerous sites,  all of which would like to extract money from them.

You have told us NOTHING of your wife except that she had/has advanced cancer and was cured? by this diet. Out of 23 post I find that not only odd, but entirely unbelievable.  Your posts have not really indicated your wife's current situation either.

Almost everyone on this forum whether they be patient or caregiver is desperate for a way out of this never ending fricking nightmare that we call life, and we have numerous selfless volunteers that do massive amounts of research and share that with the forum.  However, they always try to be unbiased and present all sides of the issue and continue to research, constantly looking for new data.  One of our researchers recently found a different viewpoint on something she has been researching for years.  It was a little upsetting for her as it made perfectly good sense, but went against some long held beliefs on her part.  None the less, she is seeking the truth for all of us, and unlike some she is not looking for a way to make a few bucks from our misery.  Since your entire contribution to this forum has been to push one product or service after another and since NO ONE on here likes to have anything constantly shoved down their throats, I am sure you will not be missed when you take your sales pitch elsewhere.

You know.  I was just thinking about this as I was driving over the bridge to work this morning, as a post yesterday from Benfranklin concerned me.
I am only new here, but it seems that every time he posts it is all about this diet.  I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers but it does seem that this food regime is all he's about!
Of course no disrespect Ben to you or your wife, but I do support the ladies above in being concerned about this.

Are there any possible problems or complications?

There are a number of significant problems that may develop from the use of this therapy. Serious illness and death have occurred from some of the components of the treatment, such as the coffee enemas that remove potassium from the body, leading to electrolyte imbalances. Continued home use of enemas may cause the colon's normal function to weaken, worsening constipation problems and colitis. Some metabolic diets used in combination with enemas cause dehydration. Serious infections may result from poorly administered liver extracts. Thyroid supplements may cause severe bleeding in patients with liver metastases.

This method may be especially hazardous to women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Relying on this treatment alone, and avoiding or delaying conventional medical care, may have serious health consequences.

Available scientific evidence does not support claims that Gerson therapy is effective in treating cancer, and the principles behind it are not widely accepted by the medical community. It is not approved for use in the United States.

Gerson therapy can be dangerous. Coffee enemas have been associated with serious infections, dehydration, constipation, colitis (inflammation of the colon), electrolyte (salt and mineral) imbalances, and even death (see Colon Therapy).

Ben,

Just wanted to second the above post , it does seem that you are pushing the gerson therapy very hard which of course will raise suspicion as to wether you are selling something . If your wife is battling this disease then im very sorry and by all means come here for support and to offer advice about personal experiences, after all thats what a forum is all about surely ?. I also agree it woud be nice if you had a profile as many of us do, and it would enable those who are interested in your dietary suggestions to  email you privately .
