MPC726, Question from a Previous Post

I read, with great interest, your response to another poster not long ago. I wanted to thank you for sharing your story. I may look into the type of test you suggested regarding the 24 hour urine test to check for secretions from specific tumors that often gets misdiagnosed.

I have been trying to get answers since Dec, 2006 regarding chronic diarrhea and unspecified (and very disabling)abdominal pain specifically on the left side. I have had a CT scan, abdominal Ultrasound, Colonoscopy....

I had a total hysterecotmy in 2000 since a month prior to this surgery, I had an ovarian cyst drained and the pathology report indicated ovarian cancer. No other cancer was found once they removed everything a month later. But, I try to be smart without overly worrying regarding my health. This latest series of events has me baffled.

I just had an open laparoscopy yesterday since the doctor suspected that surgical adhesions from the hysterectomy were  causing me problems as they had back in 2001. I have since tried to keep adhesions at bay using a special type of deep massage. I guess I have done a good job at that since there were absolutely NO adhesions to be found during the procedure yesterday.

I am grateful nothing serious was found, but rather frustrated that I am now back to square one trying to find a reason for the pain and frequent diarrhea. I just recently had some thyroid meds adjusted and wonder if that is why my diarrhea has ceased a little at least. (Can you sense my arms being thrown up in the air as I search for answers!)

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story and I might persue your suggestions if I don't get some relief soon. I am hoping that this latest procedure I just had done might have proved to be the cure, if that makes sense!

Mary

Thanks again, and thank you for the details. My Mom was a nurse and was the neighborhood B-12 "shot giver" f(or lack of a better name) back in the early 60's....all with a doctor's scripts, or course. But, she was a big believer in the B-12 shots, too. Here is hoping that you get some more relief from your symptoms.

I will definitely look into the 24 hour urine test.

You mentioned the iron count and at this point, my iron is good, but I would still think that if my pain and the other symptom (bowel issues) continues, I should at least see what comes from the 24 hour test. It makes sense actually, and it sounds like the symptoms can be deceiving. Sorry it took so long to get a diagnosis for you.

Sending my best to you,

Mary

Thank you for your kind response.
I sense your frustration. I am in the same boat.
Even if you have to bring the test up with your doctor,
I say go for it.
I have become very pro active in my healthcare.
Long gone are the days when I put my health completely in the
hands of medical professionals. No matter how excellent they are.
It took 2 years before I got a diagnosis. Still ,that is
not enough. I probably had Carcinoid for many years prior.
I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome many moons ago.
seems like me and 3/4 of the world.
I now also have erosive gastritis and Pernicious Anemia.
The two apparently go hand in hand.
The Pernicious Anemia was just discovered in April.
I had started B12 shots last
October at my own request. I had anemia for several yrs.
I have become so ill feeling that I asked for them. In younger years,pre-menopause,I had a GP who would give me one once in awhile for a boost.
I remember they really helped.Wish I could say same now.
I also have multiple lipomas most are in my arms.
I had one removed. The surgeon said one was enough, lest I have too many scars. Most recently diagnosed with thyroiditis.
So I may be looking at MEN 1 .
Carinoid and MEN1 are both Endocrine related.
I am going to have a bone marrow biopsy. Even with B12 shots
my anemia still lurks.
I am having a D&C the end of the month for a uterine polyp.
I send good wishes to you .I hope that you get some answers soon.
Always remember, you know your body best. if something does not feel right,
pursue it. Don't be put off.
