Bleeding and Menopause

I have been having bleeding between periods since 2004.  My age now is 55. I went on birth control pills for about 1 and 1/2 years then went off in August 2006, I didn't have a period for about four months then started having a period about every month and then a couple of times about every 45 days, and now haven't had a period since June 2007.  My menopause blood test shows that I am menopausal with a FSH of 39.3. that was taken back in Februrary of 2007.   My doctor says that at the point that I am I should not be bleeding at all and has scheduled me for an ultrasound.  This is very confusing because I thought you could go twelve months without a period before you had to worry about the bleeding.  Any answers?

If you are still bleeding fairly constantly then you are not in menopause...to be in menopause, it is measured by not having a period for a year.  If you are still ovulating, then the FSH test should be taken on the 3rd day of your period to give you a true reading....it is possible that this level is flucuating.

You might want to try the ask the expert forum under Gynocology, we are ovarian cancer and for me, without ovaries in the question, I don't know what to tell you
