Ovarian cyst found

Ladies,
I appreciate your help in advance. I went to my Gyno today since my ct scan this weekend found a 4.1 simple unilocular cyst on my left ovary, and she didn't seem overly worried about it. She said that we are going to watch it, etc. but I insisted on having an ultrasound done to find out what kind of cyst were looking at. She agreed and that is going to be done tomorrow. I'm still worried though...I've heard so many stories of so-called simple cysts actually being malignant. If we do the watch and wait approach, what are the chances that this will spread in the mean time? The ct scan showed no lymph node involvement or ascites, etc. I'm 24 so I am premenopausal. The thing that worries me is that I am symptomatic....please help....should I go ahead and have it removed??

Hi, just read your comments. I had a hysterectomy 3 months ago and kept my ovaries. I have been having sharp stabbing pains in left and right side intermittently and horrendous back  pain when walking and standing too long. I get no joy when going to the doctors and worried it may be something to do with my ovaries.

I would defintely see what shows up on the sonogram before jumping the gun...also, a second opinion never hurt..I had 2 cysts and had 2 opinions in addition to seeing my regular gyn.  99% of ovarian cysts are benign. I hope everything works out for you...Take one day at a time. Good Luck!

Being symptomatic doesn't really tell you anything about the type of cyst it is.  Any cyst or mass, benign or malignant, is going to cause the same symptoms.  There is something there that isn't supposed to be, so it will cause the back pain, bathroom urgency, feeling of fullness, and if it happens to be resting on a nerve, leg pain.  Did your doc give you any indication as to how long she wants to wait?  Did she want to put you on birth control pills to see if that would help?

You are doing the right thing by being proactive and taking charge of your health.  I know you have read on this forum before that more than 95% of cysts are benign.  You have that, and your age, on your side.  Of course you don't want to take anything for granted, but after your US tomorrow, you should have more information to make your decision on what you should do.  Good luck to you.  Please let us know how things go tomorrow.
