Borderline serous tumor with micro invasion question list

I have spent most of my time in the ovarian cyst community until now.  Last week I had a 10.5cm mass removed as well as my right ovary and fall tube laparoscopically.  Doctor told us surgery went well and other than this "cyst", the pelvis looked clean.  The path report came back as serous borderline ovarian tumor positive for micro invasion.  It says the micro invasion is characterized by isolated cells with abundant eosinophillic cytoplasm, not carcinogenic.  So, I am headed to the gyn onc in two days.  I fully believe knowledge is power.  So help me.  What do I need to know going in and help me build my list of questions for this doc.

Thanks for being a great community

I was diagnosed with borderline serous as well, stage 1C (cells found in third washing).

It's been 2 1/2 years.  I go for follow-ups (first it was every 3 months and now every 6).  My gynoc told me he's never seen a recurrence, but if it did come back, surgery would again be the treatment.

Good luck.  These kinds of tumors are very rarely a problem after surgery.

Yes! let's fight this disease and i know also the feeling of catheter stucked on you. Oh i hate that feeling specially when nurses have to remove it and afterwards you're feeling like you have to pee everytime.

Together we can do this.  I currently lay awake at 4 in the morning counting the minutes until morning when I can be done with the foley catheter.  I choose to focus on that because it is closer than results day.  We can do this... One step at a time

You ladies are precisely why this site is so wonderful.  Hang on to each other and know there are many , many of us on the periphery waiting as spotters if ever needed.
You give each other strength and a sense of sisterhood that simply is nonexistent outside this page.  We can come here and get out of the dark.
Peace.

update:

After two out of the pathology comes back positive for micro invasion I had staging surgery yesterday.  We will pray for 1a.  I too have not had children yet and we were actually trying when all this started.

To top it all off I ended up back at the er lad night after not being able to urinate for 12 hours post op.  Now I have a catheter to add to my fun

One week to results... Now we wait.

just had the same experience you're having: serous borderline, microinvasion, path not well detailed, slides on review, referred to gynonc, waiting for results.

haaay, its so devastating specially that im only 20 and have no kids yet. i worry that they might remove my other ovary and uterus as well. no can do :(
my surgeon and ob told me that microinvasion is associated with stage1 ova cancer so lets hope and pray for the best!

goodluck girl!
we girls have so many potential diseases right? haha!

Update.  Saw GYN/ONC.  He said he is not happy with the lack of details on my path report.  Apparently this hospital is state of the art for laparoscopic surgery but Pathology team is not experts in gyn.  So it is being sent to Hopkins and Yale on Rush for second looks.  If truly microinvasion, then it is on to staging surgery.  If not, then it is borderline and contained and removed so we are done and can just monitor.  Waiting *****!

Thanks Pam.

The question about if he has had experience with other patients with this borderline and microinvasion is a great one.  It is added to my list.  I will walk in hand in hand with my husband.  He will be my note taker and help remember.

Borderline is usually treated with surgery and followup.  The chance of recurrence is minimal.

I would ask the doctor to explain exactly what is meant by microinvasion, what type of follow up he suggests, if he has had experience with other borderline patients and how they have progressed.

It's a good idea to bring someone with you,  you might not rememeber everything the doctor is telling you.

Let us know how it goes.
