Breast Cancer after Hyst

Is my risk for breast cancer reduced now that I have had a TAH/BSO?  Breast cancer is rampant in my family. Never did I expect to get uterine cancer, but now that I have, and have had surgery, does the lack of estrogen help against b.c.?

I was just thinking without the ovaries, the estrogen level would be way down... Wishful thinking on my part.. also I am not on HRT... Doc said absolutely no way...

Unfortunately, I also think this answer is no.  Theoretically, estrogen dominance can contribute to breast cancer but who knows what reduced risk you have by having a TAH/BSO.  It doesn't sound like you are taking HRT but if you did your risk goes up not down.  After being dx. with ovca I am also concerned about breast cancer risk.  Unfortunately, my gyn/onc doesn't check anything above the waist so it takes another dr. to check for breast cancer.   Best wishes for a cancer free future!

I do not think that in general a hyster will reduce the risk of breast cancer....you may want to find out if you are BRAC positive, that will help define your risk of breast cancer as well as other females in the family.

Good luck.

I'm no expert, but I didn't want your question to go unanswered.  I have a history of breast cancer in my family (twin sister, mother) and also had a TAH/BSO, but because of my ovarian cancer I don't believe my risk is any less than it was.  This is definitely a question for your doctor or if you have insurance, maybe you could call their nurseline if they have one.  I hope someone more knowledgeable than me will hop in here.  Good luck.  Paula
