Must of us have had doctors dismiss our concens as nothing before diagnosis. I am glad you are not going to allow them to dismiss you. Empowered is right. Marie
Thank you so much for your comments. Empowered is what you did for me!!! Second guessing myself is something I often do. I will tell the doctor I would like to be referred to a gyn/onc. Thank you so much. My prayers will include you all from this point on. I will keep you updated.
These ladies said it right, you don't get a second chance. DON'T TAKE THIS CHANCE. MY GOD just read through this forum and look at what this disease is. I don't mean to scare you, but this disease is pretty darn scary. Don't take the chance, please. Even though more than likey it is nothing, but you can't go back and re-do it if something goes wrong. Good Luck and keep in touch. Jane
Tell your doc that Marie in Peoria, IL, had a CA125 of 10 at the time I had a tumor as big as a soccer ball on the right ovary and a softball size tumor on the left, not to mention a zillion tiny implant tumors and about a third of my lg intestine covered in so many tumors it had to be resected. I'll give you my phone number. After hearing how I was put off by docs and the results of that he may be scared into helping you. A good gyne/onc on my surgical team is the only reason I am alive today. Don't mean to sound pushy, but with this subject I guess I can be pushy!! Good luck and know we are here for you. Marie
YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.......have your surgery done by a gyn/oncologist for optimal out come !! There is no choice in the matter....it is imperative you have a gyn/oncologist perform your surgery for all the above mentioned reasons.
I hope it turns out to be nothing, but, just in case, cover all your bases.
Please do let us know how things are going.
Peace.

Insist on a referral to a gyn/oncologist. Not a regular gynecologist and not a regular oncologist. Gyn/oncology is a specialty of its own. They get years of extra training and once they have some experience they know best what they are lookiing at. And they know how to avoid rupturing the tumor, which allows cancer cells (if there are any) to get into your abdominal cavity -- which complicates things, as noted by Ichoosejoy. Gyn/oncs treat women for conditions that turn out benign. By the way, the only way to know for sure is to have he tumor removed and biopsied.
I hope you have a benign cyst, but if not, it sounds like you have caught this really early. My ovca is 1A (one ovary, no spread) and I'm eight years from diagnosis with no recurrence expected -- ever, according to my gyn/onc.
No...it is **not** OK to have your gyn do the surgery. I had my gyn do a laproscopic surgery on my tumor and it ruptured during surgery. My gyn was *sure* it was not cancer, but, ***it was***. Becasue of that it may take years off my life. It is imperative to go to a gyn/onc for a second opinion. Your life depends on it. Do NOT allow yourself to be pushed into having the gyn do the surgery. Also, my CA125 was normal.....many times ovarain cancer does not show up in CA125. If you do nothing else, at least go to the gyn/onc to talk to him about it. If I had went to one first my outcome would have been sooooo much better.
