CA-125

Hello ladies,
A quick question about this test if you will.
I was told due to my age (29) that this test should not be used to diagnose cancer . That a biopsy of the mass would be what they used to diagnose . Which is fine, makes sense to me. However I have been reading back through some of the posts and many people seem to to have their results come back between 9- 18 ish and that 65+ is higher risk .
My CA-125 was 130-some .
any comments please?

The sheer size and disruption to your organs can cause a rise in your CA125. Also infections and endometriosis are another couple things. There are so many things that can cause a rise and really it wouldn't necessarily be cancer. If you also read there are premenopausal ladies here who had elevated CA125 who it turned out didn't have OVCA. There are women whose CA125 were not elevated and were found to have cancer. This test is only a guide and not accurate in predicting cancer. It is better used to follow recurrance. The best thing to do is get in for surgery and have a biopsy done. That is the only sure way to know if it is cancer or not.

Given my situation and my age, a CA125 of 34 is a problem, given your age and your situation 130 could be a MILLION things.  Honey, you have just got to let the drs do what they are going to do and not worry about that test.  At your age it could mean something but most likely not.  99% of all cysts are benign and in your age range the odds of it being a malignant cyst are one in a kajillion.  That is not to say that this awful disease does not hit young people which is why we tell you all to follow through (benign cysts can be painful and cause other problems as well) with your checkups and keep an eye on things, but I wouldn't loose any sleep over a CA125 if I were you.
