Simply Star

  Marty,
Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip. The rain around here has just been unreal this year! Thankfully the county I live in sits a little higher and does not have a river running through it, just smaller creeks that run into the rivers. But the county on either side of mine (one to the east and one to the west) are having very rough times right now. I have never seen the water up as high as it has been this week. My daughter in law called yesterday and told me that the whole county (in which they live, the one to the east of me) is in bad shape. A major underground water line, that is now under flood waters has broken and they may be looking at being without water for up to 3 weeks. A few days ago, flood waters breeched the levees over there. It does not look as though we have a lot of relief in site due to the big rains they have had further up north as all of that eventually runs down this way, and we have more rain in the forcast. I hope that you are still safe and have not had any damage.
Another small town that sits by the river about 25 miles north of here has had most of the roads in  and out of it closed due to the fact that the levees actually broke in 5 different places. I have lived here for 41 years and never in my life seen or heard of flooding around here as bad as it is.
Any one else out there dealing with heavy flooding, take care, stay dry, and stay safe.
      Chris

I'm with all of ya. I'm tired of all the rain and warnings too. I found out that last week by the grace of god a tornodo jumped over Baldwin and Sparta and hit a town 4 miles north of Sparta. I was sick with a cold, the storm didn't wake my nyquil drug induced sleep, but my husband was up watching the news.

Most of the flooding around here is in East St. Louis area. We've had to move some our material and equipment because a job site is expected to be in 4 foot of water today. Most of the storms here has just knocked over trees and limb damage nothing too bad.

There calling for more today. I hope everyone stays safe and dry. Paula

Glad you are safe at least, it is all over our news here tonight, such terrible pictures. We are under tornado and flood watch here as well, til 2 a.m. The storms are moving so slow, the place that do not need anymore rain, are getting hit hard again. So far we are dry here in Chicago area, like Chris we are getting heavy storms, but so far worst weather is going around us. Calling for more of the same for tomorrow as well. The heat is too intense for me, and I am sure it is worse for you. Stay safe and dry. Sorry you missed your reunion, hope you can still look forward to our own get together in Aug.
take care

Leslee lives about 10 miles  on the other side of town from  me on  35 acres,  the river goes right through the center of our downtown district,  then the river turns and goes  along the back of her property, she told me just a while ago that all sorts of animals are coming up  into their field snd a herd of deer in the backyard.  Firemen and the national guard are using boats to rescue people, boats on our downtown streets, unbelievable .  Iowa City will be flooded tomorrow, the University is already evacuating.

Marty,
Just heard you were right in the middle of the flooding... I know what that's like on a smaller scale.. Just awful. I hope your home is safe. How close are you to the waters?
And does Leslee live nearby?  Be careful.. that water, even once it goes down, can be dangerous !

Try to stay dry and safe,
Sandy

this flooding is impossible to imagine,  Leslee has no power and probably won't for 2 to 3 weeks, over 9 thousand people in shelters, our water for drinking is now down by 75%  because the pumps  are under water and burned out. This is one for the books, I am just staying home, flood stage here is 12 feet  they expect it to crest at 33 to 38 feet. Our downtown is completely flooded, up to 2 to 5 feet in the buildings . Ruination for many.  I hated to miss my 60th  class reunion, but I guess God had other plans for me this week end.  this will take months to clean up . But no lives lost so far , so that is good.
