Can it be uterine or ovarian cancer at 24?

I am really worried that I may have cancer. I had some minor bleeding between my periods twice in the last 4 months. I went to my family doctor and hesent me for an U/S. Last week they called me and the U/S report said the following:

Marked increase in thickness of endometrium persists with inhomogeneous texture. Appearances may be due to endometrial hyperplasia but because of progression of the inhomogeneous texture one has to consider the possibility of endometrial malignancy. Biopsy and DnC recommended.

Right ovary appears normal, left is normal in size containing small poorly defined hypoechoic area around
1 x 1 x 0.6cm. This may represent a resolving folicle.

I am extremely worried that I have cancer.
I had an U/S 6 months ago and it was completely normal. Can cancer develop that fast? What else can cause inhomogeneous texture of endometrium? And that hypoechoic area in the ovary, can that be cancer too? Please help, I am extremely stressed and my appointment with gyne is not scheduled yet. It takes forever to get an appointment, and the wait is killing me!!!! Please help!!!!

Hi There,

the normal gyn cycle is a 28 days interval during which one egg cell matures surrounded by a fluid filled space called a follicular cyst (cyst is just a descriptive word meaning fluid surrounded by a skin). At mid cycle, the egg is pushed out of the ovary (ovulation), then a maturation of the follicle cyst occurs to produce the female hormone, progesterone.

your ovary has a follicle cyst that is resolving. that is a normal process that occurs every month.

Meanwhile, inside the  uterus, the lining is getting thicker as the hormones that the follicular cyst is producing (estrogen) cause the endometrial lining to grow. This is all to prepare for a pregnancy. Right before menstruation, the lining is quite thick indeed.
then when a pregnancy does not occur, the lining sloughs. that is called menstruation.

so for you, if your are right before menstruation, that ultrasound could be completely normal.

Now sometimes, for many reasons (stress, hormone imbalances, weight change, final exams, etc), women have a month where they do not ovulate. If you do not ovulate, you do not produce progesterone. You just keep producing estrogen. this can make the lining extra thick and you may have abnormal spotting.

the treatment is progesterone or going on the pill
hang in there. this sounds like are are doing normal things
best wishes
