I recently had laparoscopy for a suspected fibroid which turned out to be endometriosis that had attached my ovary, uterus and part of my colon together. My doc separated all the organs and I'm doing great now. Also had the endometrial ablation.
My question is how soon should I start working out again? I'm nervous about running. But, I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in May and ran 6 1/2 miles just prior to surgery and am itching to do more.
Anyone have any thoughts?
CombatMom, the surgery itself took about 2 hours, but there was of course lots of pre-op and recovery time tacked on. I got there about 8:30 a.m. and got home about 4 p.m. I was pretty nauseous afterward, so I had to wait probably an extra hour for that to go away. As for the incisions, I have three small ones of them, one by the belly button and two lower down right above the bikini line. The dressing is still on them, so I'm not sure how big they are exactly.
The hospital I was at is doing a study about an anti-nausea drug for surgery that has been used for chemo patients. Because I got nauseous after my wisdom-teeth removal and get motion sickness, I was a candidate for the study and agreed to do it. They gave me this medicine (or a placebo) on top of the usual anti-nausea drug. Because I was so nauseated afterward, I think I must have gotten the placebo -- or else it didn't work very well! I'm supposed to get $150 for it.
I didn't know I'd get to see pictures, but I really wanted to see them when they offered. I'm super-squeamish about things like that with other people, but I'm not very squeamish when it's MY insides, oddly enough.
I'm definitely more sore in the abdomen this morning than I was after coming home yesterday. I have some soreness in the shoulder, but not TOO bad. Knock on wood!
So glad evetything went well, same as mine endometriomas!I had them bilaterally so they took everything. Thr first couple days are not fun, but you feel better pretty quickly. It has been 2 week 4 days, i just get tired very easily. Get lots of rest, & don't over do it! Shari
Cudos to to you Cyster. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. Remember to drink plenty of water and rest. You are in my prayers.
How long did the surgery take? I'm considering having my right ovary taken out due to recurrent painful cysts. Is the scar very big? Does the site of entry hurt? How long will it take you to recover?
So very happy to hear from you and glad of your good news. I am doing the Happy Dance! Take it easy and rest. Your body will tell you if you have done too much.

I'm glad to hear that everything went so well. Now you need to rest and take it easy. Kasie
Oh, wow, you've already seen your pics?! I made myself wait a few weeks, because I thought seeing the photos so soon after the surgery would make me feel worse! You are one brave cyster.
I am glad to read that everything seems to be OK!
Glad to hear you are ok, take it easy and get you some well deserved R&R.
Oh, the doctor showed me the pictures they took of my ovaries, etc. That was kind of neat. And they also found a little bit of endometriosis.
