Hi,

I am a med tech and work in a laboratory and do these tests everyday.

Albumin is a protein in the blood and other body fluid.  A lower level of this protein is seen when there is acscites or edema present.  When I was bloated with ascites, mine was low as well.  Can also be an indicator of nutritional status as well - hopefully your wife is eating well and getting lots of protein.

Bilirubin is normal - no issues there.

The other three are liver enzymes.  Can be elevated in a variety of conditions.

I would ask the oncologist about these lab values since he knows the clinical background of your wife and he/she should be able to explain these in terms of your wife's condition.  Don't be afraid to ask - knowledge is a good thing!

I agree with Gail that either a doctor, nurse or even a pharmacist can answer your questions.  On the day I receive chemo, I get my CBC & CMP written results and have asked questions about the results to the 'chemo' nurse while I'm still there.  I have found that the chemo nurse has been the most helpful.

I've never really asked about these particular values, because they didn't seem to be significant to my doctor.  However, you've made me look at some past records and I see there has been a difference in my values...I think I will be asking at my next session on Monday before I'm knocked out on the pre-meds.  I thank you for bringing this to my attention....I guess I have been ignorant in some respects with my over-all health.

My best to you and your wife.  Angie

Hi,

This is a fairly complicated question in that we are not doctors on this forum.  My suggestion would be to ask your question on the expert forum.  It is sometimes hard to get a question posted there because there is a limited number of questions per day, but keep trying.

Best wishes to your wife!
