Chemotherapy for 1st relapse

Diagnosed with Stage IV Grade 3 OVC in Nov 2007 with CA 4900

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with Carboplatin and taxol with Complete cytoreduction and 3 cycles of consolidation IP Cisplatin.

3 Months after treatment CA went down to 9.8 and CT came in clear
6 Months after treatment CA was at 10.1 and CT came in clear
9 Months after treatment CA came in at 27.
12 Months after treatment CA came in at 51.

PET/ CT which showed multiple peritoneal deposits including the surface of the liver and around the colon.  Oncologist recommended no surgery but re-treat with chemo.

Started on Doxil and Carboplatin based on treatment plan as per Calypso Trial.  3 cycles after chemo CA125 came in at 7.5.

In such a setting does one stop chemo once the CA125 normalizes or continue for the full 6 cycles.

Thanks

Dr Goodman,  My mom had a meeting with her oncologist today to review her CA and PET/CT results.  I have posted her current treatment plan on my prior post.

PET/CT findings

Hepatic nodules could not be visualized, significant reduction in size diaphragmatic nodule, interval reduction in peritoneal deposits. No new lesions found. Consider Good response to chemotherapy.

Her oncologist said that she has had a very good response and though her CA is normal he will continue with Doxil and Carboplatin as per Calypso Trial protocol.

Have you seen a good outcome in this setting?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi There
I agree with the plan to continue chemotherapy. There are sometimes where one just stays on the chemotherapy if the side effects are not too hard. The chance of the cancer recurring once chemo is stopped is very high.
thank you for the update
best wishes
