Complex Ovarian Cyst with Septation and Nodularity

Hi, I am 30 years old and have been having horrible back pain and numbness in my left groin area.  During a recent MRI for my lower back, the radiologist found a 3cm x4 cm cyst inside my right ovary which he thought to be a Dermoid.  I had a follow up TVUS and the doctor told me that it was a complex cyst within my right ovary with a septation and areas of nodularity and had no characteristics of a dermoid.   They also found a solid lesion of 1CM iwithin my left ovary.  I am so worried about it being cancer that I am scared to death.  I cannot sleep and stay sick to my stomach (right now it is 330am).  Did anyone have anything simular to this that turned out to be just a cyst?  Everytime I look up a complex cyst online it points to Cancer especially when i look up the nodules with septation.  My my regular doctor would only say that he was sending he report to the head of the GYN at the hospital I go to so I could see him.  As a single parent of 2 daughters I dont want to leave them as orphans.  Any advice on what to ask the GYN when I see him on the 4th would be greatly appreciated,  Should we do the wait and see approach or should i ask for surgery immediately.  Thanks ahead of time for your help

Thanks for your support.  I am currently at Fort Riley, Kansas.  But as far as the injury in Iraq, the doctors have found that I have a torn disk that is also herniated.  The Ortho docs seem to think that my pain in my lower back, weakness in my left leg, loss of sensation in my left groin area and bladder control problems are related to this cyst thing.  I am not so sure, but I am stuck in a rut right now and feel like I need to concentrate on one thing at a time.  After we decide what to do about the ovary part of the problem, We can start looking into the back problem.  Maybe it is all connected but I dont feel that way.  I am so tired of having to live every day on pain pills just to be able to make it.  I am not sure how all you ladies do it with the chemo and other treatments you are taking.  I am so tired of hurting and the funny thing is that I wasnt hurting like this until my accident in Iraq.   So that is my venting for today,   Thank you again for your support and allowing me to vent!

Thank you so much for serving our country! *HUG* My son is in the Army and based out of Ft. Carson, CO. On Christmas eve he returned from a 15 month tour of duty in Iraq. He's been in nearly 4 years and has another 4 to go. His unit is set to go to Afghanistan in June of 09. I hope the injury you suffered there has healed. It is hard to be away from family and I will pray that you are able to find friends who will be there for you during this time. You know all of us here will do what we can to support you with our thoughts, prayers and shared experiences.

Even though 2 weeks seems like a long time it rally isn't in the big scheme of things...it's just that it seems like forever when we're dealing with the unknown.

Keep us posted. Talk to you soon.

Thanks for the comments.  I am in the military so I must have my doctor refer me out to the other doctors.  So I have to pretty much deal with the people that I am assigned to take care of the situation.  The funny thing is the symptoms of the back and hip pain with bladder problems is exactly what I am going thru.  I have been on medication to control my bladder for almost 2 months now.  I am just scared to death and knowing I have to wait 2 weeks to see the doctor is really driving me crazy.  What makes it worse is all of my family is more than 1000 miles away and I have no support group here.  But I am trying to stay positive with the fact if I would not have gotten injured in Iraq, we would not have found the lesion/cyst.  So again thanks and I will try and keep you posted on what happens.

It is scary to hear these things, and even more so when we google our results and end up here...but, we've all been where you are and we're here to tell you that 98% of cysts/masses on ovaries are benign. It sounds like your doctor is on top of things. I learned by coming here that the doctor best qualified to deal with these things is a gynocologist oncologist - and find one is what I did - not because I thought I had cancer, but because he would know what he's looking for and would not need to call in another doctor should it have turned out to be cancer. He would have been able to do what was necessary from square one. The only way to know for certain what a cyst/mass is is to take it out and study it - all other tests are limited.

We can also relate to the pain you describe. I had terrible hip and back pain. The doctor trying to diagnose the hip pain found one of my cysts on an MRI - and the trans vag ultrasound to follow up on it found the cyst/mass on my left ovary. I also had bladder urgency and near constant crampiness. I am pleased to say all those pains are now gone!

Best wishes to you. Please keep us posted and know everyone here cares about what you're going through and will help in any way possible. Take care.

Others here know way more than I do about your primary questions.  But I am with you on  the not sleeping from worry. I asked my doctor for something to help me sleep until my situation is resolved and he prescribed Temazepam 15mg...it is generic for Restoril---actually that is what he might have prescribed.  Anyway, he said it is not habit-forming and called it into the pharmacy for me.  I have had the first good nights of sleep since this whole thing got started.  One pill and I sleep all night and wake up alert.  Maybe this will help in the short term.
Good luck.
