Complex Thick Walled Cyst? Help / advice needed please

Good Morning,

I've been trying to post for a week but its always full am SO happy to be able to ask you this question. I keep researching about cysts and stuff. I keep finding that complex thick walled cysts are almost always bad and are more prone to be cancerous. I am beside myself with worry and have worked myself into a lather, have lost about 10lbs from being too worried to eat. My doc gave me the ca-125 that came back normal at 31 and then the OVA -1 which came back at 4.2 which is normal for premenopausal women. My scheduled repeat sono is this coming week...I am just wondering what your thought on the odds of this cyst being cancerous or something that will require surgery and basically am wondering if the info I have been seeing is true about thick walled cysts.

Thank you so very, very much for your time, as I know you are incredibly busy! Below is the report from the sono I had in August (side note when they wrote the report they had my lmp as 8/16/2001)

Exam: Transabdominal and transvaglnal sonographic imaging of the pelvis

9/7/2011

Findings: Uterus measures 8.9 x 5.8 x 8.1 cm and is normal in size, Small
Fibroid noted anteriorly in the uterus and subserosal in location measuring 2 x
1.3 x 1.7 cm, Uterus is anteverted. It makes visualization of the endometrial
stripe quite difficult. It appears to be somewhat thickened measuring 1.8 cm in
thickness. (The patient's last menstrual period was 8/16/2011),

Right ovary was normal measuring 5.3 x 1.5 x 2.1 centimeters with a volume of 5.9 millimiters.

Left ovary measures 3.9 x 2.6 x 1.8 cm with a volume of 9.3 mL, Complex
thick-walled cystic appearing area measuring 2.5 x 2.4 x 2.1 cm noted in the
left ovary, Recommend follow-up sonogram in approximately  6 weeks to ensure
resolution.

Impression:
Probable thickened endometrium with small fibroid noted in the uterus.
Complex appearing cystic area with thick wall noted in the left ovary, Recommend
Follow-up sonogram in 6 weeks to ensure resolution.

Hi There
cysts that resolve are just normal cycling functional cysts

if you have regular cycles and no abnormal bleeding, I would stop getting ultrasounds
you are going to end up getting unnecessary surgery for things on a scan that may have nothing to do with reality

if you are having abnormal bleeding, that is a reason for a biopsy of the lining of your uterus - called a D&C (dilation and curettage)

you should ask you doctor about that
take care

Hi Dr. Goodman, (this is Jogirl423 had to make new account)

I had the sono yesterday - 7 days after period started. Showed NO cysts in ovaries (one listed above has resolved) - but now they see a polyp...don't have final report yet, won't get it till my regular doctor gets back next week. Oddly enough, they didn't note the fibroid.

My friend thinks since there was no prior history of a polyp (and it wasn't picked up in ANY previous ultrasound) that it was probably blood still in uterus and that blood and polyps look similar. She is a radiologist.

I don't know what my next step is...do I have another sonogram? Do I have a removal procedure? I am thinking another sono if anything...just wanted to get your thoughts to see what you would recommend and if indeed this could be the case.

I actually had some blood pass (normal for the end of my period) yesterday afternoon - exam was in morning - wondering if that could be it and what you could recommend.

Thank you for any help.
