Swine flu and You Ladies

I have no idea for sure how this Swine Flu thing will come out, but I am worried somewhat,, about a big if it does spread, with the low iimmune systems  you have while on chemo, be sure you  protect yourselves  very carefully  untill we find out just what it is going to do.  Tthe masks are for those that are sick, not for the ones that are NOT coughing and sneezing,  they keep the droplets inside the mask,  just stay clear away from anyone that is ill, wash your hands and tell those around you to wash theirs   Why do I worry?  Because I care about you all, and I sincerly hope that  this whole thing blows away quickly.  marty

Oh, I , for one, don't think you're safe if you don't go out.. one can't become a hermit. But I think we have to be mindful that it's not just these masks that are going to keep us safe either. . I'm very bad about putting my hands on my face, so I'd have to be very mindful if I wore a mask, to also wash thoroughly after I took it off.. Otherwise, it;s pretty useless.. I realized today, while out running around, how many things I touched just while in one shop ! In Florida there is another suspected case.. we still don't know about the one from yesterday. It would certainly help if there was a way to speed up these results also!! Y'all just be careful and hope this just runs a harmless course..

Take care,
Sandy

temp  of 100 or more, sore throat, cough  to begin with.  If your child has these sysptoms call the doctor, these is a shot that will help.

Six degrees of separation ya'll.  Here in Texas I'm listening to it all but still feeling kind of safe.  I'm out from 2 weeks after my doxil treatment which knocks the pants off my WBC counts about now.

Well my little brother, who lives about 80 miles away got sent home today from work cause a vendor he met with last Thurs. tested positive with this flu.  The office sent everyone who was in contact with this guy to the doctor to be tested then home till the results come back.  My bro has no symptoms and is probably okay but my parents who live here in Austin visited him this past weekend and, of course, have been with me several times since then.  Soooo, feel I've dodged a bullet.

Then picked up my girl from school today.  Another private Baptist school was closed because an elementary kid and his mom had the flu...they are waiting for the test to see if it's swine.  Well, didn't know this but my girl told me  this kids big brother and sister are in my girls high school.  They weren't in school today but were there yesterday.  Maggie has a class with one of them.

So six degrees lady.  You don't think you'll be exposed to this thing if you don't go out but....

Wash those hands and get nasty with your immediate family about washing as soon as they come in your house.  Hopefully this will pass with no really bad fatalities numbers but be ever diligent.

Love to all!

Hi,

Wouldn't you know it.... shortly after I wrote this, I read that N95 (thanks... I had forgotten the name) was useless??? Go figure. Hard to tell what to believe in all this.. Waiting for results for a child in Fl. that is suspect. My daughter teaches Elementary School down here.. They wouldn't release the name of the school till late this afternoon. Still don't know it it's just a reg. virus or the Swine..

And, you know, I've also been thinking about the masks.. Say you wore one, went to a few shops, etc. .. Came home, took the mask off .. and then put your hands anywhere on your face, etc.. Poof !! There all the precautions go ~~ out the window. It's always made me wonder when you see people so religiously wash their hands in public restrooms, then use their bare hands to turn the water off, push the lever on the paper towels, then use their bare hands (still) to open the door to leave.. To be really safe , you'd have to have the training that Dr's have I guess... I'm just hoping it isn't as bad as it sounds...

Hi, Sandy.

I heard this on the news today, too.  I just Googled it because I thought it was N95.  This is the correct mask type.  I also heard that many stores are running low because of this virus.  Hopefully, they will get more in soon.

Also ladies, I heard  , if you're going to wear a mask, that it be "95" something as the regular masks that you may see don't stop the tiny little viruses .Marty, you're probably familiar with the type I'm speaking of.. They're like surgical masks. The other masks have larger "holes" and will not prevent this tiny little virus from entering. Most of the health stores down here are completely sold out of the "95..?"  Heard this on CNN as well as local news..

Be careful .. and don't forget to wipe your purse off  (the bottom of it.). wherever you put your purse down, it collects all sorts of nasties !

temp of 100  or more, cough, sore throat, are the first signs, call doctor and try to get tested, there is medicine you can get that will ward off the bad side affects.   I am using lysol wipes when I go out to the store, and keep your hands away from your face.

It is spreading slowly, the people bringing it into us are those that are coming from infected areas,  Iowa had none until today, 2  today, one man had just returned from mexico and the other from Calif. Be careful who you come in contact with. Know what you purchase and wash it. even a can of pop has  germs on the outside of the can or bottle,  I think that you with the low immune systems should take extra precautions.  Please stay safe.   Marty

I heard one MD at the CDC say wearing a mask in crowded situations or on a plane is a good idea because it will keep you from touching your nose and mouth!  Of course everyone is insisting the most important thing is hand washing or using those sanitizing gels.  I just hope when it does go away it is for good......I just don't want it to come back in the fall and really slap us around!
Wash those hands , ladies!!
The CDC has a good bit of info and suggestions on their site.....it is worth a visit.
Peace.

Thanks, Marty.  I am hoping to fly to Buffalo (and drive to Canada) on 5/19/09 after my 2nd round of topo.  I had planned on wearing a mask anyway because of the recycled air on the plane .. and will definitely do it now .. unless my MD forbids me to take the trip.

I really need to make this trip and see all of the Canadian family and my Mother-in-Law's 90th birthday.

Thanks again for thinking of us .. you be careful as well.
