Dermoid Cyst

My girlfriend just discovered that she has a dermoid cyst. The doctor said it was about the size of a baseball. She's 18 and she will be getting it removed within the next month.

My main question is: what will a doctor do to take care of this and when done will she be able to get pregent?

I know we're young and everything but i plan to marry her and everything and i want to start a family with her but i want to make sure that she'll be able to have children. If not, then thats not a super big deal we'll work around that cause i love her. If you could help me, that would make me feel better and less worried. Thank you

I recently left my own question on here and skimming through all the others I came across yours... First let me tell you I had a cyst develop on my left ovary the size of a grapefruit, my cyst engulfed the ovary and they did have to remove it, I was 17. I got married when I was 19, to my elementary school sweetheart, had our first child when we were 21 and 23 and now 14 years later and God's special grace we have 3 very beautiful, healthy children.

I pray this surgery goes well and that you have as much love, hope, faith and blessings as I feel we have.

Hi there
We always try to leave as much ovarian tissue as possible. the more the better but women can get pregnant on one ovary without trouble
take care

Thank you soo much. we were soo worried about it. having a family is one of our most important things to us. just one more thing, will it be hard to get pregant with just one ovary or is it about the same as having both?

thank you again

Hi there
She will be able to have children. usually it is possible to just remove the dermoid and leave the ovary. Every now and then that is not possible to save the ovary because the dermoid is too big but it is still possible to get pregnant with one ovary
take care. I hope all goes well with her surgery.
