more not so great news

Well...I am being referred to hematology, they said my platelet counts are extremely low and looks like some form of leukemia. I have known for awhile and have come to terms with it. I asked if this is an extension of my reoccurance and they said that it could be but it would be very very rare (so says my pcp). I have two more chemos left for the ovca and then we will see from there, my ca-125 is still abnormal but much better than it has been in over a year. The latest count is 110 and that is down from the thousands so to me that is a good start in the right direction. I am still bartending 4 days a week but not full shifts anymore, I am only working four to six hours a day and my shifts are well staggered. I am also allowed to sit down for the most part which helps tremendously. Dusty is being a BEAR with the summer time arizona heat, I think we are both going about stir crazy. I will post more when I have more information

Wow, so much to have to go through.  Your numbers sound really good, so that is a positive.  I will be praying that it is not anything like what they think it might be.  Good luck and please lets us know what happens.  People should not have to go though this much.
I understand about work.  I miss it terribly, but could not work now with this continuous chemo, and chemo brain,

Hon, it sounds to me like you are going to come out on top no matter what they find. But I will keep you in my prayers that they do not find a thing. You are so right that the more you have to deal with, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the more you empathize with others.
You are a very strong woman and an inspiration to us all. Becoming bitter does us no good what so ever, but those boxing gloves on, make all the difference in the world.

Well...what can I say...  I sit here and read about you and ache for you.  I'm sending nothing but positive each day; I know it's hard to be positive ALL the time, so borrow some of mine if you need to.  I totally understand your wanting to work, and as long as you have that wonderful working situation with your boss, there's no reason to not.  I know that I felt a lot more stress when I wasn't working than when I was...I guess it sort of gives us the feeling that this "spit" isn't going to take away everything.

Keep us all posted...we're all sending our hugs.

You are an incredible woman.  You've been handed one thing after another, and you have handled everything incredibly well.  You're truly a role model for all of us. You have helped SO many of us on this forum to stay strong and fight.  Now it's our turn to help you.

OK!  STAY STRONG AND FIGHT!

How else can we help?

I wish you all the best. As Gilda said, "It's always something" . Keep your spirits up, and I am glad work brings you joy, it is nice to have your own space and time away from dealing with the bad "stuff".
take care

I dont want to give up my job. It sounds absolutely horrible but that is when I take time to myself. I have an understanding boss and I love the place I work. I just got promoted to manager last week. Dustin takes up so much time and energy that i am grateful for my family and the help they provide, but also for my job. I think that this has been brewing for quite awhile and just now decided to rear its ugly head. When I had my hysterectomy I had severe bleeding problems and ended up in intensive care. I suppose I was like an ostrich and put my head in the sand back then. I have always felt that you are not handed more than you can handle, and the more you have to deal with, the more you learn, the more you learn, the more you can empathize with others. If you cant do that then you become bitter. I am not a bitter person, and I am ready to put on another pair of boxing gloves, if I can beat ovca than I sure can beat this. I got a little upset with my husband today and told him I will not do anymore chemo, you know he did not realize that I was venting because I am TIRED of chemo, but of course I will, my family is too precious to me not to. Thank you msjazz (Donna) I am going to read the article that you put up. I kind of thought that there was some connection, I just did not know if it was the chemo itself or metastisis or a little bit of both. Every one continues to be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry.  You should be eligible for social security disability now if you had social security taken out of your pay.

http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/340/5/351   I have seen this before, this is from New England Journal of Medicine about chemo causing secondary leukemia. I put this one as it came up first when I googled ovarian cancer chemo causes leukemia. It is a possibility. I hope you don't have this. You will be in my prayers.   Donna

There should be no way that leukemia is stacked up on your current illnesses!  Perhaps that doctor is wrong.  I hope and pray he/she is.

Keep us updated on what happens.  I wish you didn't have to work.  That must be very hard on you.  Is there any way you could take off? You should qualify for disability. Have you tried that? IF and I say IF there is a blood cancer found, disability would be a sure thing. God Bless

Hey there kid.....nothing quite like Arizona in the middle of summer!  Wow.....just seems to keep comming at you......I can only imagine how tired you must be.  It is good you are able to sit but I am certain you would rather be stretched out resting somewhere.  I am so sorry you are continuing to go through this junk.....I do think of you often and hope your summer turns out to be a good one.
Take care and know you are in my heart.
Peace.
