Elevated CA125

The week before last I went to my gyno for annual check-up, she found what she thought was a uterine fibroid.  I had a ultrasound the next day and it showed a large mass, the doctor said I had a 16 cm and 6 cm cyst that needed to be removed along with my left ovary.  Last week I had a mri and ca 125, I got the results back on Thurs. that my ca 125 is elevated.  The doctor said it could be cancer or endometriosis.  When I called to schedule for surgery, the lady said she was booked until Dec. 11.  When I told the receptionist I couldn't wait that long for surgery she said she would have to talk to the doctor about urgency of surgery.  She called back and said the doctor didn't feel it was cancer and that I could wait that long.  I don't know if I should be relieved or not.  Until surgery she will not know if it is cancer or not.  Meanwhile I have scheduled to see a gynocological oncologist on Thurs.  I'm hoping she will feel the need to do the surgery a little sooner.  This waiting is the worst, I am frustrated and just want to go ahead with the surgery so I will at least know what I'm dealing with.

The girls are right, stick with the gyn/onc. and when you see him/her tell them your fears and that you do not want to wait that long. If they still insist on a Dec date, tell them to prove to you that it is not ovarian cancer before they make the date so far away.
I wish you the best and please let us know what you find out on Thurs.

Dian is right.  I forgot to add that part in my response.  December is too long to wait.  The more you call them and push the issue the more likely they are to move the surgery up.  Marie

YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME......Marie and Ronni are exactly right......it is imperative you have a gyn/oncologist perform your surgery.  Though chances are better your masses are benign....I would NOT wait until Dec to have them removed!  Time does matter when it comes to ovarian cancer and those masses of yours are plenty big already......hopefully you will convey your sense of urgency to the gyn/onc you are seeing next week and your surgery will be sooner rather than later.
Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.
Peace.

I agree with Ronni.  The gyn/onc is the only choice for surgery.  I am here today because of the skills of my gyn/onc.  They have more training and experience on how to remove the suspicious masses without releasing cancer cells into the abdomen. They also know what needs to be taken and biopsied.  You are probably not looking at a cancer diagnosis, but better be safe rather than sorry.  I wish you the best and hope that you return to let us know how you are doing.  Marie

Only allow a gynocological oncologist to do your surgery.. I dont know if you have endo or cancer but a gyno oncologist has more training and is the ONLY choice for your surgery
Elevated CA 125 could be a number of things...endometriosis, your age an infection anything.. your cysts need to be removed..
I hope all works out well for you... Ronni
