Help me understand endometroid ovca!

I finally spoke to the Dr that read my US. I forwarded questions prior to our conversation and she said I was asking good questions , but the wrong ones as far as what her thoughts were. Due to my age, 60 and past history of endometriosis with cysts , a ablation, etc she is suspecting Endometroid  OVCA. I have bilateral masses , one at 16.1 cc volume and the other at 8.1 cc volume. The is no flow to the smaller one and on one Doppler there was some flow. They are cystic and have some solid debris. No septation , but one has a dark solid image in the center.  She said... And I quote " endometroid Ovca is less  invasive " and if I was premenopausal, she would wait a few weeks and repeat the US .. My ca 125 is 13.1 which is in the normal range, however it is elevated. That concerns her also. I asked if she thought it could be  benign  and she said yes, that was a high probability . Enter the internet... Everything I read is opposite of what I heard her say. . I was hoping I can get some insight from you.. The experts. I have appt. Next week with  oncologist . Thank you for taking some time out of your life to help me. Blessings!

Believe me I take Ovarian Cancer seriously. My mother died of it ( 8 years after having her ovaries removed "ovarian remnants"). Due to this fact the doctors never looked at this possibility. To the point if you have confidence in your MD, great but NEVER skip a second opinion. We all know that time is of the essence with any cancer so be your best advocate and get answers and don't stop asking questions. I am NOT a doctor but you do know that the CA 125 ,is pretty much useless IF it is Ovarian. I only wish good results for you and don't assume the worse.

Do you trust your Doctor? If so I would go by your Doctor and not the folks on the internet. We are not Doctors and we do not know your whole story, nor do we have your lab results. I am here to lend support if you are scared. It is important to have a health care provider/team you trust. I went into this alone and scared. I can give advise to women who are about to have surgery or are having chemo because I have been there. Do you have someone going to appointments with you? It good to have two pairs of ears. Also my first Gyn/Oncologist was intimidating. He pulled out a piece of paper and drew how he was going to cut me up. I was alone and in shock. I know what it feels like to wait for tests and think about Cancer. I had a breast Cancer scare recently it turned out to be benign but it was a hard few days waiting to get tests and then the results. It is rare to have both Ovaries be Cancerous.Anything under 35 with a CA 125 is considered normal. When is your appointment next week?

Sorry you are dealing with this. MOST ovarian cysts are benign even in post-menopausal women. If you do not have a genetic predisposition for ovarian cancer, your lifetime risk is less than 2% (U.S. government statistics say 1.4%).
I had a large ovarian cyst that looked suspicious and my gynecologist rushed me into surgery. Even though the frozen section, done while I was under anesthesia, was benign he removed all my sex organs. I wish I had not trusted him (even though I did for 20 years). I also wish I had known the GROSS OVERUSE of female organ removal and had done things very differently to protect my vital organs.

Despite what we are led to believe, the uterus, ovaries, and tubes have life-long non-reproductive functions - anatomical, skeletal, hormonal, sexual. So it is best to treat all benign conditions conservatively (remove as LITTLE tissue as possible). Even removal of an ovary can cause a surgical type menopause (which can even occur in women who have already gone through menopause since the ovaries of intact women produce hormones into their 80's).

The CA125 is not accurate in diagnosing ovarian cancer. An elevated reading can be caused by benign conditions.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted on what more you find out.
