yes the pituitary gland secretes hormones including estrogen. They were checking because my mother died of ovarian cancer which was undiagnosed (because she had ovarian remnants) so nobody was looking for anything GYN. She died 7 years after a total hysterectomy of Ovarian Cancer with no Cancer at time of surgery....I have had many surgeries and often FSH is included in my work up but this is the first time it has been this elevated. (being checked due to some symptoms, not pre-op this time). Thanks for your input as far as doctors the one that ordered this turned out to be USELESS so I am working with my Internist and waiting on other labs.

I appreciate you sharing your situation with me. FEW people seem to have a grasp of this concept. Thanks very much.

FSH is high after menopause and low in the reproductive years. For the most part, it has an inverse relationship to estrogen level. Since you do not have ovaries and do not take estrogen, it makes sense that your FSH is high.

I also do not have ovaries but I take estrogen. When my estrogen level gets rather high, my FSH is low (in the range of a menstruating woman). When my estrogen is on the lower side, my FSH rises.

I was told we still have female hormones even after all the organs are gone. Like guys have estrogen. Plus I saw something the other day about all the estrogen we get from receipts and printed material. Apparently the coating of receipts has estrogen and we get them in our blood stream also from plastics and food supply.

Is your Doctor worried? I have all kinds of tests all the time that come out weird. I let my doctor worry about them. It is strange they were even checking your FSH.
