Fever and Chemo

My mom just did her first treatment of chemo two weeks ago, and today she develped a fever of 100.5.  She took motrin it helped to keep the fever down at 98.5 and then at bed time it came back up at 100.5.  What does this mean?  I know the nurse warned us that a fever may develope, but why and from what?  Is it a sign that her immune is down?  Any expirience, suggestions and advice is great.  Thanks

This can mean that you have an Bacterial infection. I have always been instructed to not take things to bring fever down. First time round and second time I had Chemo I got an bacterial infection immediatley but not ever again yet. I took cipro and it went away I had a cough also. Also if my temp. ever goes to 100 I am to call Dr. be careful

Just to be on the safe side ,call her doctor and maybe they will ask for her to come in and do her white blood cell count to check for infection of some kind...It really sucks how chemo can heal you of one thing and kill out your immune system at the same time so you are open to everything else that comes around...She will be in our prayers..lou
