Fibroids and cysts

I went to the doctor, because I was complaining of abdominal pain, and the doctor scheduled me an ultra sound.  IAfter a week later my doctor contacted me and stated that she wanted me to get aanother ultrasound in two months, because in the report it stated:

Findings:  The uterus measures 8.8 x 6.6 x 7.3 cm and has a heterogenous echocardiogram pattern.  Three focal fibroids are present; the one on the left measures 3.7 x 3.4 cm and the two seen posteriorly along the uterine body measure approximately 1.8 and 1.4 cm respectively.  Transvaginal image demonstrates the endometrium to measure approximately 6mm.

The right ovary measured approximately 5.2 x 4.5 x 5.5 cm.  There is a 4.4 x 4.1 cm cyst in the right ovary.  The left ovary measures 3.6 x 3.9 x 4.8 cm.  Note is made of a 3.3 x 2.6 cm cyst in the left ovary.  A small amount of free fluid is seen in the posterior cul-de-sac.

I am also on my menstrual right now and I'm bleeding real heavy, and my cramps are unbearable.  I want to know does this sound like something may have ruptured or can I get ovarian cancer from this and not be able to have children.  Can you tell me what you get from this report, your understanding on what the report is stating?  Does this sound real serious for me?

Thank you so much for your time.

Hi There
it sounds like you are getting very appropriate treatment.

My previous comments apply to you as well.
It is helpful to know your age and other medical problems.
lack of a period can be menopause if you are over 40 years old. That is less likely if you are younger although there are  rare reasons for ovarian failure

on the other hand in younger women, lack of a period can either be due to an absence of estrogen because the brain is not sending the right signals to the ovary. this can happen for women who have had tremendous weight loss such as with anorexia nervosa or marathon runners or other intense athletes.

Or it can due to lack of ovulation and lack of progesterone production which sounds like what your doctor is treating you for. The most common reason for that is polycystic ovarian syndrome. You should ask your doctor for more information about what s/he thinks is the reason for your condition

hello, I went to the doctor about 1month ago to get a pregnancy test, because I was having pregnancy symptoms like: no period since July, weight gain, abdominal pain, and heavy discharge. I ended up taking 4 pregnancy test and all were negative, so we thought I might have an ectopic pregnancy, so I went and took an ultrasound and found out that I have a cyst on my ovaries and fibroids on my uterus and all they prescribed me was birth control pills with progesterone. I will start taking them Sun. but I still have not had a period, could something else be wrong...

Hi There,
it is helpful to know your age. Gyn conditions change as one gets older and mean different things at different ages.

As a generalization, I would say that you have fibroids and cysts on your ovaries. Common things being common, fibroids, which are benign muscle growths of the wall of the uterus, can give you pain and heavy bleeding. Ovarian cysts can be related to ovulation, or benign growths, endometriosis and so on.  To sort that out, usually repeat scans are obtained over 3 to 6 months to see dynamically how the cysts come and go.

Depending on your age, birth contorl pills are commonly tried to control heavy bleeding and pain.
