Final Stages

Hi my name is Dawne and I am 48 years old.  I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage IV on August 21, 2007.  My cancer has mets into my lung.  I found out last week that my calcium levels are very high.  I also suffer from severe rheumatoid arthritis and osteoperosis.  My RA doc wanted me to take reclast for my RA.  My cancer doc is concerned that my high calcium levels are indicators of my cancer spreading into my bones.  I am having a bone scan on this Thursday coming up.  I am usually an upbeat person, but, with my 3 year anniversary coming up this makes me very nervous.  Most people live about this long after finding out they have OVCA.  Is it common for this type of cancer to go to the bones.  Everything I have read doesn't indicate this... it indicates more organ mets.  I am also very scared about what will happen in the end.  From reading your posts (and offering me comfort), it seems like the end is quick and almost "painless".  Anything you can tell me will help.  Thank you and God Bless everyone on this site as we are all going thru the same thing.

I am not on chemo at this time..  I have done the carbo/taxol 2 rounds of 9 treatments each.  I am having my bone scan this Thursday.  My friend, a chemo nurse, said that if I do have bone leisons that they are treatable with the treatment I have just started which is a form of reclast. I did have lung surgery when my mets was found (when I found out I had OVCA).    I guess we never do stop worrying do we?  I hope you do well and enjoy a long break from treatment.  You and all others on this site, will be in my prayers.  Dawne

You and I were diagnosed at about the same time.  I am worried for myself too.  I agree with you that ovca doesn't usually go to the bones.  I guess it can happen, but not as common.  My recurrence is on the liver, the stomach, small bowel and implants throughout the abdomen.  I am on chemo again and will be done in 3 weeks to see if it helped. The women here on this forum have helped me along so much.  I hope you find comfort here too.  Are you on treatment of any kind for the lung mets?  After this chemo I am done.  My body is over-treated and I prefer to feel good for as long as possible.  I hope you are feeling okay.  I will keep you in my prayers.  You are right.  We are all going thru this together.  Marie
