Hi my name is Jamie im 28years old and live with my mom who is schizophrenic 58yrs old. its been 8 months  since we found out my mom had 3c ovarian cancer she had the hystorectomy and refuses to do the chemo she has been doing quite well concidering. but the cancer has made its self more noticeable the doctors are pushing about the chemo she is in somewhat denial of it cause mentally she cant handle this she doesnt take her meds . Im falling to pieces from the reality of it all physically and mentally . i love my mom to pieces and because she looks ok she doesnt buy it but shes complaning of her stomach feeling hot again like when she had the tumor they originally removed. i dont know what to do . her ca 125 count is 370 dropped from 490 ive been doing the vitamin good organic diet thing in the house for her. But is there any thing I can buy or something to help . since she refuses treatment also im not real pro to chemo anyways it kills the good cells n the bad i dont think she could mentally handle loosing her hair and feeling sick she just would be so so sad.  what do I do ?

Is there a way  that you can have your Mother assigned to you as the custodial person? If she is considered unable to make cognitive decisions about her health, perhaps you could take the power out of her hands and make those decisions yourself.  I have been involved in court decisions like this and while it is hard to over rule another person especially a parent,  if that saves their life, it is determined to be worth while. I would like to think that your Mother would do this for you. It is called a Competency Hearing, having the dx from the mental health people should be an advantage.  Your Mother does need the chemo to have any chance to live.  Marty

I am sorry to hear of your moms situation. I can only begin to know how frustrated and scared that you are. Unfortunately as coogeegirl said, the surgery and chemo are the standard treatments for ov ca. And though losing your hair is quite a traumatic experience, it is but a small price to pay. Just this week I lost mine for the second time. Since she had surgery, I am sure that she did feel better for awhile, but without chemo to help the chances of it starting to grow again become much higher. I hope that in some way you can convince her that this is the best way to go. And I would definately check into your moms mental health Drs helping you out in any way possible. I wish you the best of luck. And please let us know how you get along.

This must be very frustrating for you. The mental health care professionals involved in your mother's care for schizophrenia may be able to offer support and insights for both you and your mother. Please keep us posted on your situation. You will find much support and care on this forum.

I am terribly sorry to hear of your mothers diagnosis, along with her mental illness she certainly has a lot of health issues to manage.

Unfortunately chemotherapy is the standard protocol for treating and managing this horrid disease, none of us wanted to have it but it really is the best  and only option for any chance of a long term remission.

In saying that though I certainly believe in holistic treatments to help work hand in hand with conventional treatments.

Have you thought about taking her to a naturopath who can suggest a regime for her to follow to help boost her immune system.

You have started her on the right path with an organic diet (eating lots of  green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cabbage) vitamin co q 10, vitamin c, vitamin d, drinking lots of water (filtered if possible), flaxseed oil mixed in with cottage cheese is also supposed to be good for us each day as well.

But really really try and convince your mum to have chemo if possible all of us found it hard losing our hair (read a previous thread titled I hate this disease you will see many stories from various women  who have lost or are losing their hair again) and remember chemo effects us all in different ways maybe your mother will get through it with little side effects.

Good Luck to you and your mother.
