I called the insurance company and asked for the name of a gyn/onc that was in our network. Then I asked if I would need a referal or if I could call on my own and make the appointment. If you need a referal, call your pcp and ask if he/she will do the referal for you since your gyn wants to take the wait and see approach and you ane not comfortable with that. I hope this helps. Kasie's advice is great. Don't forget that there are more and more teaching hospitals that do not require a physician's reference to see a gyn/onc. Not sure of your geographical location, but you'll also be able to locate the speciality at teaching hospitals. Please keep us posted. Good luck.

I to back in April had post menopause bleeding.Went to gyn and had pap.bisopy of unterine and ultra sound. Had fibroids, septated cyst, and thick uterus. I went for 2nd opinion to gyn oncologist and opened a can of worms.Since then I have had blood work CA 125 CEA and 27.29 Only one high was 27.29. Since April I have had 3 trans vaginal ultra sounds,a CT Scan of pelvic area and stomach. A admonial ultra sound and a mammo. Monday I am going for coloscopy because Ct Scan showed a very small colon and enlarged liver. After that is done my oncologist will do a D&C to see where we go from there. Since my uterus is .09cm almost twice what it should be.A oncologists is very very thorough.Be prepared fpr a lot of testing. My gastro doctor doesnt seen to concerned he thinks colon problem is a birth defect or colitis.
Be prepared for a lot of testing and good luck.
