HRT and ovarian cancer

Hi Dr,
I have recently had a radical hysterectomy for stage 1a mucinous carcinoma.
Is there any evidence taking HRT could raise the chances of a reocurrance?
I want to take HRT to protect my bones ect but i am concerned it may raise my chances of this disease returning.
I am 36 yrs old
Many thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Ellie,
thank you for your question. My impulse is to say - take estrogen. At your age, you are just replacing what your body would naturally give you if you had not had your surgery.  You can ask your doctor about testing the tumor for estrogen and progesterone receptors. Theorectically, if your tumor has estrogen receptors, if there are any other tumor cells left, they might be stimulated to grow. But mucinous tumors in general are not  stimulated by estrogen. A stage Ia  cancer should be cured by a radical hysterectomy.

Other interventions to protect and keep your bones strong:
-do not smoke
-take 1200 mg of Calcoum and 800 IU of vitamin D per day
-exercise that stresses your bones such such walking and weight lifting - about 30 minutes per day
best wishes

Dear Sharon,
please see my comments to Ellie. They apply to you as well.
lots of love as well
