My mom recently did Avastin by itself and it seemed to help immediately. It is not considered a chemotherapy and to my understanding works best when combined with one. I have read that many use it with cytoxin and have good results with minimal symptoms. It is an expensive drug and depending on your situation you may have to be your own advocate. I am definately not a doctor, i'm a construction worker, but I did do alot of research and a doctor at Stanford was excited about this drug. I also heard that they use it alot there. There is a risk of bowel perforation. You should research this. I wish you the best of luck. Teddyboy
I have problems with ascites, and on my last 2 recurrences it was my only sypmtom that it was back. The first time we used Topotecan and it worked immediately . This time were using Navelbine, and I felt relief after 2 infusions. It didn't change my ca-125 number though. I can understand the pain,my pain was unbearable and nothing worked not even duluadid!! So if your pain is getting worse have them drain you asap!! Good luck~~~Joanne
Hi - My mom is in a clinical trial her ca125 is dropped dramatically but the acsides is frequent and agressive anybody have these mixed results before??
Im going to share your group with her she needs your energy
thanks for this
thanks for all your input. Will have CT on Thurs. I feel lumps (tumors) all of the stomach area. Started to have some pain. Moved o\up to Loritab, but can't take it at night, as it keeps me away. Do have some bloating, but not like it was. My heart breaks as I read these posts. It is so hard not to get discouraged. Hang in there eveyone. -one day soon- We all hope. Love, Yvonne
Hello Yvonne,
I had five abdominal 'taps' in four months before I my surgery - 8.5 litres, 11 litres, 7 litres and 4.5 litres. I was also on Carboplatin at the time to shrink the tumours prior to surgery. My last tap was November '06. Surgery in January '07. Followed by four more carboplatin. ( I proved allergic to Taxol)
Ascites was the only real OVCA symptom I had - it probably came slowly but increased suddenly just before diagnosis. My ocologist told me it would come back but up to last Tuesday they haven't found any although my CA125 has risen and I will be starting chemo again next week.
Hope chemo will dry up your ascites - it is not pleasant but the drain does help .
Hugs from Ruth in the UK x
Yvonne,
You are in my thoughts and prayers also.... I hate to see you going through this. I wish I had the answer. Will they drain you again, soon? As Jatoo says, are there other chemo alternatives.
A big hug, Helen
Ascites. Normally chemo would take care of it. It did for my wife on just one treatment or cycle, first with Doxil and later on when it reappeared by Avastin with Gemzar. What have you used so far? Are you platinum-resistant? Ask your Onc whether Avastin is okay for you. It is very good in removing ascites. I will include you in my prayers Yvonne and please pray for my wife.
All the best,
Jatoo
Hi, I'm not a medical doctor but i can say I will have you in my thoughts and prayers...keep the faith and you'll be alright!!!
