Hip/Back Pain

Hi all

I have had lower back stiffness and an ache at the base of my back on the right side over my hip bone, my hip sometimes feels bruised to the touch at night my whole right hip aches so bad it wakes me up. I started putting a pillow between my knees and it has helped.

I saw a massage therapist who says my right hip is not lined up right but would that cause all this pain ? At tuimes it goes up my side like my appendix or something is going bad or something but Dr says that's been too long and it would have burst by now. I've had Pelvic ultrasounds on ovaries but they say they look good except a very small cyst on right side that should not cause this pain.

I have a few problems with my back, herniated disks in C5&6 and T11-12....could this pain be from the T zone herniations? I'm told they are small.

The hip pain does not affect my leg at all but up the right side of my back I'm getting achy as well, possibly because my muscles are tense from worry, I'm not sleeping well at all from worry.

Any ideas what could be going on with me?  I'm very concerned about ovarian cancer.

Don't necessarily think the answer is between male and female doctors. My 20 year old daughter was diagnosed with a 6cm ovarian cyst in the ER and instructed to see her Gyn ASAP, their office said they could fit her in 2 months later, my male Gyn got her into his office in a week. We see him tomorrow but her female doc treated her like she was a drama queen and actually asked her why she thought she needed seen and why so quickly!!!

Kyldon,
Has anyone taken a look at your SI joint? If this joint goes out you will have extreme pain and your hip will be tender to the touch and feel very bruised. You will also appear out of place one leg shorter then your other leg. How you test to see if you sacrial illiac is out is lay down flat find the top of your pelvic bones and feel if they line up on both sides if they don't your S.I joint is out of place. You might want to talk your orthropedic doctor.
Now that I know what it is I can catch it and get it back into place before it gets to severe. I went two years after my workers comp injury with severe pain and got referred to this doctor and those were his first words your Si joint is out of place. I looked at him like huh I had been asking doctors why my leg was shorter then the other one I new this wasn't normal and this guy examined me for five minutes and told me.
I hope this might help I am not a medical doctor just a person who suffered the same symptoms.

Hello, I have read all of your comments to find I have something in common with you all. I too have severe hip pain. The pain radiates accross my lower back. When I am sitting even for a short amount of time it hurts to get up. When I lie down it takes my whole upper body strengh to change positions or to just sit up. It is painful to lift my right leg and to cross the right leg over the left I have to grab it to bring it over. My husband thinks I'm insane because he can't imagine being in the discomfort I am for as long as I have. My doctors can't seem to find anything wrong except for a degenerated disk in my spin. I am not sure if that would give me the pain in my hip and pelvis area that i am experienceing. If anyone can give me advise please do...

Thnx for your concern.  I know that you must have enough to worry about with your own situations.  I'm just worried because the other U/S reports said it could be carcinoma and dr didn't even do a biopsy when he was in there.  I'm tired of a life of drs appts (15 in 4 months) and lying on the couch stoned on percocets.  How can they expect me to loose weight like this? I don't get the results of todays U/S for about a week now, but the nurse said the cyst is still there. So now I sit and worry, and dread seeing the gyno again.
I never seem to say what I want here and always think of something I should have said after I sign off, but I really do appreciate the help.  Thnx

Hey there girls.  I want to put a little info info you.  Most of the time, your doctor doesn't think it is severe enough to do anything until you push relentlessly for them to do it.  I have been suffering with chronic cysts rupture, hemmoragic cysts and endo for over 6 years.  Believe me, after you get a history of problems it gets easier.  At least on the doctor side.  I had my first hemmoragic rupture at 20 it was 2 cm.  So I understand the amount of pain that comes with it.  Even the small ones can be tough.  8cm...is NOT too small to worry about.  If you are in pain...MAKE them listen.  Keep calling, making appointments leave messages.  Persistancy is the key.  I was in pain for years before I was diagnosed.  I do not want the same for anyone else.  If you are unhappy with your doctor...get a second opinion.  or a third.  And, yes, a female doctor does make a difference.  Believe me, it's better to be persistant than to end up in the emergancy room with a cyst the the size of a volleyball.  If the pain is keeping you from your life, you have every right to find a doctor that will help you.  Good luck!

You understood right. He didn't do anything at all. I know I'm overweight, but I have gained 20 lbs since I have had all this pain. He had the nerve to tell my GP that I am too obese for him to do anything. He said the cyst was small and not to worry about it, but is 8cm small? He insists that the pain isn't from the cyst so he is sending me to a bowel dr. (not til April) but I have no real problems with my bowels. My GP is upset with him. I go for another U/S Jan 9 and see what goes from there, but at this point I am pissed. I am in pain and it isn't getting any better (just like the rest of us here), but 4 months is enough.
thnx Martha May

I don't write often but these posts have hit a nerve.  I've had such bad back/hip pain since the beginning of Sept. Which is when they just happened to find an 8cm cyst on my left ovary.  I've been off work since then and on pain killers, but no dr will believe it is the cyst causing the pain.  I have to see all other kinds of drs and no results.  (all male of course).  I had surgery in Dec but the dr said that he couldn't take out the cyst as it's too close to my bowel.  But with all the u/s, cat scans, mri's and xrays shouldn't he have known that without cutting me open?  and when I asked what I should do so as not to rupture the cyst he says "Well, if you did rupture it it would be the end of our problems wouldn't it?"  I felt like going over the desk and rupturing something of his. He wanted me back to work 24 hrs after a laproscopy.
Wouldn't it be nice if all of us could get tog at one drs office and just let them have it.  We all say the pain is from the cysts and all the MALE drs say it's not.  I, for one, am tired of constantly being in pain or on painkillers.

Hahaha!!!! I totally know what you're talking about!  MEN!!!!  I wish I had a female gyno here, but there isn't one. I feel totally misunderstood, like what I say goes in one ear and out the other....He kind of looks at me like "Ok lady! Whatever!"   NOT HELPFUL I SAY!

I don't know if I have reoccuring cysts, I haven't dealt with the first two yet....good grief!  I'm totally scared though....I'm scared that something else is going on, and it's going undiagnosed!  My worst fear!  I'mhoping I can get in with my Mom's doc, because I just feel VERY unwell....

HA HA!!!  I tried explaining to my "male" doctor.  (by the way this is the first male gyn I ever had) that I constantly feel like I have like three tampons in me.  Like I have this stuffy feeling of discomfort all the time.  He looked at me like I had three heads.  HA!  He didn't get it.  That is why I am now making a new appt. with a WOMAN!!  I don't understand how men can fully understand women's issues when they are gyn's.  Do you?  I KNOW something is bothering me in there and only a woman gyn can fully understand symptoms when you tell them you feel like you have "three tampons" in you.  Do you have reoccuring cysts?  Or are your symptoms a mystery like me?

Man, my doc said the same thing "You shouldn't be in that much pain!"  NO KIDDING!!! You think?!?!?!   A friend of mine told me that it could be because it is pushing a nerve or something.  All I know is it hurts like the dickens!!!  Glad I'm not the only one...

Question, if your Gyno is a guy....how would they know what is going to hurt and what isn't for a woman?!??!?!?!  Have THEY ever had a cysts on their ovary?!?!?!?  I THINK NOT!!!  In this case bucko, the patient knows more about it then you do!!  Why can't they just listen and do something to help instead of saying "Oh it's impossible for such and such to cause pain like that, so that's not what it is!"  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

I just read your posts.  I too have the same pain.  I have had cysts here and there on my ovaries throughout my life.  My most recent was a 7cm cyst on Left ovary and one on right 2cm.  I have this never ending sharp pain that radiates from my back to hip to ovary (area of ovary).  I feel like I am losing my mind sometimes because the doctor keeps telling me that they cysts aren't causing that pain.  After my last ultrasound they saw that the left cyst had burst (the tech said she saw fluid in my pelvic area, and ASSUMED the cyst burst) and the right ovary still had a small cyst.  My dr. called me with results and sort of told me "everything looks great, you shouldn't be in any pain anymore."  I didn't want to tell him I was still in alot of pain because he is insisting that I should be feeling fine.  I am going to make an appt. with another doctor for a second opinion.  Maybe someone out there can explain what this pain is.
I'm just so glad to hear that there are other women out there who are experiencing the same pain symptoms I am having and that I am not going crazy.
