Hormones ??? ovarian cancer

How do you know whether you can, or cannot take HRT?
I have just had a full hysterectomy, and my docs have said that I can start on estrogen in 6 wks.
What kinds of OV cancer is fed by HRT?
This is something that don't know much about, can someone please give me some information.

One of the diagnositc pathology tests they can perform on the tumour or cancer cells is the activity/number of eostrogen receptors.
My cancer was found to be predominantly non eostrogen sensitive (low levels of receptors).
We therefore decided to try HRT and watch my CA125 (good marker for me so far) due to my age (32) to prevent bone density issues etc. I also kept my uterus and am planning to try a pregnancy with donor eggs so want to keep my uterus healthy.....

My docs do not want me to take it.  I do not know if mine is estrogen sensitive, but they prefer me to stay away from it.  I have not had much trouble with the surgical menopause.  Marie

I had granulosa cell tumor.  My gyn/onc put me on a very low dose vaginal suppository or premarin to prevent atrophy.  The more I read about my type of cancer I decided it was not worth the risk as gct is estrogen receptive.  So I quit taking it.  I would guess it depends on what type of cancer you have and what your gyn/onc thinks.  Good luck, Chris P

Hi
I could be wrong but from my memory when I first approached a gynocologist about my mum's condition with suspected OVCA at the time, I was told that HRT would be the best alternative treatment for my mum. I don't want to give you any false hopes because it was a gynocologist (not an oncologist) who told me at the time that there are several types of treatments for tumour amongst which are HRT, chemo and radio therapies. He also said that HRT would have been the best option for my mum's age if her tests (biopsy) reveal that her tumour is non-cancerous.
