Hysterectomy or Not?

August 06: began having severe right upper quadrant pain, nausea and constipation. Doctors kept saying  gallbladder. All tests said no. I had a CT pelvis-showed a 5.4cm cystic lesion that appeared to be arising from the R ovary predominately located within the cul-de-sac.
9-24-06: Admitted due to vaginal bleeding X 8-10 weeks & doctor said everything felt very swollen internally, afraid of a torsion. No torsion. Lesion/cyst was 2.0cm.
Over the next 3-4 months: Lost 40 pounds-Sent to GI-diagnosed with gastritis. WBC 3.2, neutrophils 1.6 (Sent to Hem/Onc and WBC is now 4.4 Neuts 2.2) CRP 7.5.
12/1/06: Pelvic US-only showed a dominant follicle @ 1.7cm.
12/11/06: MRI Pelvis: uterus retrodisplaced/slightly deviated to the left of midline focal areas of decreased T2 signal with largest on the right measuring less than 1.0 suspicious for fibroids. Nabothian cysts are suspected involving cervix measuring up to 1.0cm. Lesions of increased t-2 signal involving right adenexa measuring up to 1.6cm in max dimension. May represent ovarian cysts. Signal voids in the right ilium and left supraacetabular region. May represent bone islands. Recommend coorelation with pelvic U/S for further evaluation of these findings.
Why wasnt this seen on U/S?
GYN recommends hysto? Says I dont need CA125 b/c he is going to make sure nothing is there during surgery.
I have been having low grade fevers, fatigue, bloating, Abdominal/Pelvic Pressure, Bleeding (off & on despite BCP), Uncomfortable Intercourse, leg crampsx6 months. I am 33yo. Am I crazy for considering hysto? OV CA? I'm exhausted.

Thats puts a new dimension on your question.I had to have hyst when i was 26 but my ovaries remained until recently. I had no second thoughts about removing them(i am 47),i just wanted the pain to go away.I gave my previous advice thinking you had no children or maybe wanted more. The only advice i give now is to consider you will go into a surgical menopause,so try to look into that before you make your decision. At the end of the day you can be guided but the ultimate decision lies with you.Let us know what you decide.Dawn

My c-reactive protein was 7.5 about 6 weeks ago. I have already had my left ovary removed in 2000 for a large complicated cyst that would not resolve. As far as children. I have 2 and had a tubal ligation after my 2nd. So I think it's just the jumping into surgery that scares me. I am just ready for some relief from somewhere and maybe hysto could be the answer?

I had to have one @ 20 years old. I know the idea of not having children isn't the most uplifting during this time, but there are other ways. Do what's best for yourself and get a second opinion!

Hi I'm 36 and had a total Hyst 10 weeks ago I had all the symptoms you mention plus more

I would demand the CA125 and C Reactive Blood test

I also had many Ultra sounds also Vaginal Ultra sound and they saw nothing sometimes you just have to be operated on .

Also a second opionion never hurts.

As for being 33 I guess its not ideal but if you dont want children or if you have always like myself suffered from heavy painful bleeding then a hyst is not a bad thing in fact I have never felt so stable and calm.

I have just started radiation and am looking forward to being done with this .

Best wishes and good luck

Get a second opinion. There are other avenues to explore such as laparoscopy first to get a real diagnosis. A hystectomy at 33yrs seem a little extreeme. If you scroll down the posts im sure i read recently(nov-dec)another women with more or less the same question.Good luck.Dawn
