That's a tough call, but I want to emphasize what the others have said - you should have a gyn oncologist perform the surgery. It's worth waiting for a short time to get the right doctor. When I was finally diagnosed, my surgeon told me that a month in between dx and surgery doesn't really make a difference in outcome - although if you can do it in less time I would! Also, it's unclear to me why the alternatives given by your doctor are 1. you have to rush to get this done or 2. you have to wait two months. It's inconsistent. Obviously - you have to make the choice that's right for you. I myself would immediately schedule an appointment for a second opinion with a gyn oncologist, preferably at a cancer center or hospital that has a substantial number of cancer patients. They should be able to get you in quickly and look at your pathology and scans. I had my second opinion within 5 days, and the surgery less than two weeks after that.
Good luck. Let us know what happens,
Diane
If cancer is suspected the surgery should be performed by a GYN/Oncologist. The rate of surivial is higher when the surgery is performed by these experts, they have 3 years additional training over an OB/GYN and their practice is concentrated on female issues vs. child birth. I am sure that the GYN you are seeing is an excellent doctor, but, a second opinion can't hurt.
What did they do a biopsy of? What were the results? What are the results of your CA125?
We are talking about major surgery, possibly life saving surgery, it should not be done at a doctors convenience, but, should be based on the best results for you.
There is a great lady, Dian that posts on the forum often, she is famous for saying, you only have one chance to get it right.....getting it right is more important then getting it done in a hurry.
Best of luck and keep us posted,
Pam
Where are you? Is there only one hospital and/or one doctor you can consult? Is the doctor going on vacation or something?
Do you know that it's best to have a gyn/oncologist do your surgery, even if there is little likelihood that it's cancer? Gyn/oncs have additional training, especially in surgery, and it's important to get that right.
If you really can't get on the schedule until May, I would consider proceeding on Monday -- but only if I was sure that I wasn't just doing it for the doctor's convenience.
Good luck.
If I was in the same boat I'd be in surgery on Monday. I know it is a rushed decision, but it will be done and over with. Chances are good that the cysts are benign, but if they are not you don't want to waste time. This disease is nothing to mess around with. The surgery will be done and you will be feeling good in no time. I am hoping you will have a gyn/onc do the surgery. They have the experience in case it is cancer. My gyn called one in to do my surgery and it saved my life. I wish you the best possible outcome. Marie
