the Gerson methods are not approved for the USA   this is from the cancer association

Description

Gerson therapy is a form of alternative cancer treatment involving coffee enemas and a special diet with supplements claimed to cleanse the body, boost the immune system, and stimulate metabolism (see Metabolic Therapy).

Overview

Available scientific evidence does not support claims that Gerson therapy is effective in treating cancer, and the principles behind it are not widely accepted by the medical community. It is not approved for use in the United States.

Gerson therapy can be dangerous. Coffee enemas have been associated with serious infections, dehydration, constipation, colitis (inflammation of the colon), electrolyte (salt and mineral) imbalances, and even death (see Colon Therapy).

Thanks to everyone for your support.

I would ask for prayers tomorrow at 11:15 am as we will have a "discussion" with my mom's onc.  Sounds like there is actually hope for her.  I tell her all of the time about this forum and all of the great information and support we receive.

Ben Franklin - How do I learn more about diet?

I will keep you posted.  Anyone else that has any experience with Avastin, please let me know.

etaxitpo:  Again, I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

My wife had the spreading to the chest cavity and is close to remission.
Her CA 125 went from about 3800 to 365 after surgery, then with good diet and chemo
to about 320, 185, 135, 65 and now about 45.

She is 100% controlling her food and juices.  This we think is critical to do as a complement to the conventional medicine.  The macrobiotic diet, the gerson therapy and the halleluia dietary approaches are all worth looking into.  We especially like the gerson approach as it is, in modifdied form, helping my wife.   And, in addition a relative of mine used it in 1952 to recover from an advanced cancer, after doctors said only a few months to live.
He recovered in a year and a half and is now 88 years old and still going strong.

Study and learn as much as you can.  Best of luck to you and your Mom.

I am sorry but I missed your post yesterday. I am currently on avastin which is being given to me along with abraxane. I was dx at stage IV in Nov 05 with mets to the liver. They have gotten it out of my liver twice now. I know that is not exactly the chest cavity but i was just giving you a quick background.
I have been on chemo since dx starting with 8 rounds of carbo/taxol, then taxol for maintenence. Then it was on to Doxil, then Gemzar, then Topotecan, and now the avastin/abraxane which was started in Jan. My onc was very excited to get me going on this as there has been a lot of success with it. I recieve my treatments once a week for 3 weeks and then have a week off. Weeks 1 and 3 recieving avastin/abraxane and week 2 abraxane only. So far it has been a fairly tolerable drug. I did lose my hair from the abraxane. But I have been seeing other Drs combining the avastin with other drugs too so she may be able to avoid this. The one problem that did develope from the avastin is high blood pressure. I have never had BP problems and do know that is is caused from the avastin. But try not to worry to much about it because not everyone experiences it. I am now on BP meds that have stabilized it and am able to continue on with my treatments.
I know that this is all very hard on you but do not give up hope. In the middle of my second round we checked my CA and it had dropped from 613 down to 315. So it is working.  I wish your mom the best of luck and if they do put her on avastin, please keep me informes on how she is doing.
Also please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
    Love Chris

Please first of all know that there is hope.  That is the most important thing.
Maintain your serenity.  Here is a prayer called NORBERT'S PRAYER
which you and your mother can use:

"Whenever I lift my mind and heart to God, miracles happen within me".

Second, you need to find the best treatment option, conventional medicine
and perhaps complementary/alternative medicine, as well as nutritional support.

It is a rocky road no doubt.  I am going through it now with my wife.
She had OVCA which had also spread to the chest cavity.  She is doing well.

She did surgery, chemo and completely changed her diet.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
