Thanks. I am going to push for them to take it out. Marie
I was told I could not have ip chemo again on recurrence, because of scar tissue and adhesions. They would block the flow of the ip chemo. Mine was removed 2 or 3 weels after I finished. How do they keep it clean? I would insist on getting it out, or a good reason for not doing it. Donna
My doctor said that after my first line treatment (which just finished) then the IP port will be removed and it is scheduled to be removed in 10 days. My understanding was that even if I recurred that type of treatment won't be used. I will keep my IV port in a bit longer. I am really looking forward to getting this out - push hard to get it out. That port has higher risks of problems associated with it.
oops so sorry marie please forgive me.

Mine isn't an I/V access port. It was only used to administer the I/P chemo. It is screwed onto my rib cage below th b**b and has a tube that runs into my abdomen. I wish I would have had an I/V port. For that my veins were poked so much I almost ran out. Marie
Sorry I can't help there, as my port is still in also. I have not pushed for it to be removed, as my veins are horrid, and the port has been a Godsend for me with the surgeries. Yes it sticks out too, I wear half shirts or sports bras to keep the pressure off of it. I kinda look at it as my war wound now, of a battle I will never stop fighting.
best of luck with doc removing yours marie, I hope they take your wish into consideration, hopefully they will grant you your wish.

That is what I have always heard---- only for first line treatment. As toxic as it made me I can't see my body doing any more I/P. I will keep pushing her to let me take this port out. Thanks, Marie
I asked about IP treatment way back when I first had my recurrence and I was told they only consider it for people who are newly diagnosed. No one offered it to me though - go figure!
Take care,
Becky
