IMRT. (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy)

Hi All... Has anyone on this site had IMRT, or do you know of anyone who has had this, to help fight ovarian cancer. I've heard of this, and would like to find out more about it, before I approach my Oncologist with a suggestion of maybe trying this. Any replies or info would be greatly appreciated. I hope you are all staying on top of the beast :-)...and feeling well. Best wishes....Helmar...

I used to work in a facility that provided IMRT.  It is a high beam radiation therapy that focuses on a specific area as opposed to treating the entire pelvis(for instance).  We always did a "planning CT" where we would scan you and place BB's to find the specific thickness, area, etc..  Then the radiation therapy department put all the info into the computer to know exactly where and how large of an area would be needed.  It spares surrounding tissues from being needlessly radiated, but I do not what cancers are IMRT eligible, persay.  Small breast cancers, prostate, neck area cancers, some cervix.  Has your doctor mentioned that your ovca could benefit IMRT?
I hope I have helped you some.

Hello, and thankyou for your response. At present I have residual tumour in the lower pelvic area. My Oncol. tells me that's there isn't all that much there, but with a CA.125 of almost 2000 I think there must be something going on. At present I am on Topotecan in the hope that this will reduce the tumour (which is apparently like seaweed, and not a solid mass)...so that my Oncol. is then looking at either abdominal radiation, or IMRT, which, from what I can gather, is a rather 'newish' treatment for ovca. I appreciate your info on this, and I'm hoping that there just maybe someone around who has actually experienced this treatment, as it would be good to know if it does work for ovca.
Thankyou again for taking the time to respond. It's very heartening to know that there is always someone who is able to be of help. Wishing you all the best.....Helmar...
