Infection at Port Site

Has anyone experienced an infection at their port site.  My port itself is fine .. but there is swelling, redness, and heat  just above the port where there are a couple of tubes buried under the skin.

I am in Canada, but intend to go to my MD's office tomorrow afternoon to have it checked.

Anyone had this problem .. and how did you fix it?

Thanks,
Judy

Sorry to hear about your infection Judy...I've never had one myself, but it sure doesn't sound pleasant! I hope you can get that taken care of as soon as you get home...

Thanks for the reminder...I haven't had my port flushed in over 2 months - I must get that done soon :)

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip...again, it was great to meet you and I look forward to your next visit!

Take care,
Becky

Hi Judy,
I hope you're enjoying your much deserved vacation in Canada.

I had an infection at my port site with the same symptoms you described. in addition I had red streaks coming down below the port.

My oncologist gave me antibiotics and it cleared up immediately, make sure you do get to your doctor tomorrow, you don't want it to spread or get into your blood stream.

This occurred about 18 months ago, and I never had an infection after that.

Tomorrow I'm having my CT scan, and that will determine if we can take a break from chemo. or need to start the new Avastin Gemzar combo immediately.

Have a great finish to your vacation, and a safe trip home.
