Is back pain normal?

Hi and thank you for previous advice. I am goin in for a full hysterectomy on 5th July as I have a large complex cyst on my left ovary and fibroids on uterus. My CA 125 is raised also. It IS a OBG/GYN performing the surgery.  I now have an awful pain in my back- at the top of my spine and around the sides. I went to the GP who said it was muscular and probably stress related. However, I`m really worried that if the cyst is cancerous, that it has spread and this is causing the pain. Has anyone else had similar aches and pains? Many thanks.

Thank you so much for your comments and advice. I think the OBS/GYN IS also oncology specialist. Kind thoughts to you. Berni

It's good that you're with an ob/gyn but it would be better if you had a gyn/oncologist perform the surgery.  They have years more training and experience -- and they should be involved even if cancer is unlikely.  A gyn/oncologist will know how to remove the mass without rupturing it, which avoids the possibility of cancer cells leaking into your pelvis.  (There's no way of knowing for sure until after the surgery and after the pathologist has done his/her work on the items that have been removed, so gyn/oncs do a lot of surgeries for people who have benign conditions.)

Good luck.

Yes, I have had the same experience.  I had a hysterectomy at the age of 36.  And yes, the back pain was related to my GYN problems; no cancer.  Your CA 125 marker is probably elevated due to your uterine fibroids and cyst.  I doubt this is any cancer.
