Thank you for writing me back ladies! You have been more help than you know! I don't believe they took that A1c test you guys are talking about, but I definitely will add that to my list of questions for the gyno! I am a little confused with my results. I have gained so much weight, so maybe my insulin is of a normal level, but my triglycerides could be really high. And that could still mean a metabolic dysfunction. I did fast for the test! I researched that you can have PCOS without high insulin levels, and that metformin could still be of help in my case of not being able to get pregnant. It also could be endo, my doc diagnosed me just after seeing multiple cysts not after any tests or anything. Multiple cysts on my ovaries could also be because of endo...But I am determined to figure out what I do have. I have gone too long without answers. I wanted to write back, but now I am gonna go to those sites you were so kind to find me mickeyvicki! Livertrans you lucky lady! I love Canada! Would like to move there in the next couple years! It is so beautiful there!!!
luv,
Bethany :)
It's me, again. I was trying to check on the endo/PCOS thing, and found this great website. I think the doc is in Australia, but the site is great. It has endo and PCOS. Here is the page for endo:
http://www.gynaecologymolloy.com/endo.html
According to the search engine listing, the page supposedly says something about endo WITH PCOS, but I did not see it scanning the pages on endo and PCOS. Maybe you will see it, if it is there.
I wish that I could find that dang chart! The more that I think about it, 14 could be "borderline of borderline", putting you even further away from 'it.' Anyway, I wanted to reiterate that the number is indeed good news. You do not appear to be diabetic!! Yeah! With all you been going through, you needed some good news.
Bethany, I have tried to find my chart, but it is not on this computer. However, it has not been too long since I had an insulin resistance bloodtest, and my result was slightly lower than yours. If I recall correctly, then your level of 14 means that you are not diabetic, but that you are 'borderline' for impaired glucose tolerance or insulin resistant. Essentially, this means that you are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. The really good news is that as low as your level is, you should be able to completely control your blood sugar levels by diet - simply eliminate some of the sweets and starches - assuming that you have some degree of self control. Unfortunately, this problem is one side effect of PCOS; my own blood work was done because of those repeatedly missed ovulations I mentioned on another thread. The doctor wanted to check this issue as well. Your doctor should be able to provide you with material on all of this information. Did the nurse give you a number labeled as A1c as well? That number indicates whether you have suffered periods of high blood sugar in the past 2 or 3 months.
Yeah, me again. I am making a pest of myself, but I found what I was seeking:
Check out this page, then click on question number 73.

You might need to just copy this one and show it to your doctor.
There are a lot of ways to look at blood sugars(on insulin injections last 3 years because I did not control it with diet).
Was this a fasting sugar or a random sugar? If they really want to get a feel for what your levels are doing overall you maybe should have a Hemaglobin A1C done. This gives an average over 3 months so that even if you have some highs or lows they will be able to see what they generally run at. I know in the measurements for the A1C that they do here in Ontario they like to see it under 6 but will take up to 9 as ok. So many variables. Hope I have't confused you more. It just helps to know what they doctors are talking about and what questions you may want to ask. Good Luck
I don't really have an answer for you, but am writing to celebrate with you that your sugar is okay!! yay!
Take care,
