Pain

The last couple days I've had horrid pain on both sides (not just thr right side where the cyst is located) everytime I take a step it feels like someone is stabbing me, and when I use the restroom it feels like my lower abd. is going to explode there is so much pressure. I am scheduled for surgery on Dec 11th - should I call my doc and let him know what is going on? I really haven't had much pain (surprisingly as large as the cyst is ) before this. Or do I just take some motrin and deal with it? I feel like I have fairly high pain tolorence I had both of my daughter with no meds...

I agree a call to your doctor is in order.  Not knowing the type of cyst it is, it's hard to say but trust me better safe than sorry.  I had a fist sized dermoid spontaneously rupture and waited to go to the doctor.  It happened at the onset of my period (always had bad cramps) so I just thought this was an extra bad cycle.  Motrin wasn't taking the pain away and eventually the pain was all the up my abdomen.  I consider myself as having a high pain tolerance and looking back wish I wouldn't have "toughed it out."  I didn't know I had the dermoid in me so I had to go through a night of diagnostic tests at the ER before the head ER doctor told me it must be "some d*** female problem."  I had peritonitis and the contents of the cyst distributed in my abdomen when my OB did the exploratory surgery the next day.  So don't wait as it may mean preventing some other complications.  Good Luck.

Hi there - how are you??? Im new - have a 7.2 cm complex cyst found last week acidentally - they have since decided to watch it for 6 more weeks, then take another ultrasound based on the rad. report.  I asked my dr yes if it ruptured about peritonits, he said no, because it is not an infectious cyst, and said if it ruptures it will hurt and and is not the type of cyst to cause peritonitis.
Since yours did, can you tell me more why when yours ruptured, what size it was and also, what type it was....??
Are you okay noew

I agree it could be twisting or it could have just gotten into a position where it hurts you now for some reason. I also have a high pain tolerance and the pain didn't get really bad with my over 13cm tumor until the week it was discovered. Coincidentally, I was on my period so I just thought it was really bad until I stopped bleeding and I couldn't keep any food down. The doctors treated my tumor as an emergency. I walked into the OBGYN's office on a Friday. They sent me straight to the hospital at first to have surgery that day, but later reconsidered and scheduled it for Monday. They kept me overnight in the hospital and then sent me home to do bowel prep, but told me they would keep me in the hospital until surgery if I wanted them to.They told me they couldn't believe I was even able to walk into the office with a tumor of that size. I couldn't imagine the pain a larger cyst would cause! I would definitely ask them to move up the surgery date if at all possible. I hope that they do for your sake! Nobody should have to be in pain like that. I'll be praying for you!

My dermoid (mature cystic teratoma-benign) was about 11 cm when it ruptured.  I know it happened in the the middle of the night (the pain woke me) at the start of my period.  I went to work the next day in a lot of pain.  I stayed home the next day in bed and could barely walk.  My husband convinced me to see a doctor so I got a late appointment that day with my Gastro.  He sent me to the ER next door. This was back in 1998.  They didn't give me much info back then.  I think the ladies on this sight are so very knowledgable.  It sounds like your doctor is being wise to monitor your cyst and he is right about the rarity of rupture.  Mine was a (dermoid)and they contain contents like teeth, hair, skin, bones, etc... Let's just say I was the talk of the ER and my doctor will never forget me as I was the first case he ever saw.  From what I have read dermoid rupture is rare .2-2%.  A recent MRI shows I now have complicated bilateral renal cysts that I must have monitored every 6 months to watch for changes to malignancy.  (not that this is related, but I have been having trouble with adhesion pain, gallbladder, etc.)  It has been a stressful year full of doctors visits since Feb. but I must say discovering the wonderful ladies sharing here has kept me positive.  I wish you great luck on resolving your cyst and thank you for your concern.
