Anyone had 2nd interval debulking surgery?

Had initial surgery May 3rd and 2nd chemo coming up Jun 15th. Surgeon mentioned that after 3-4? chemo sessions, they were considering a 2nd surgery to remove what they couldn't get 1st time around (mostly omentum area and pelvic). Anyone had a 2nd surgery - do they cut through original incision or make new cuts in different areas of abdomen? I have suffered terribly from the 1st surgery (still not healed) and am absolutely freaked about going through that agony again.

Hi,
I have appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma rather than ovca, however I have just had my second abdominal surgery within the last 10 months, with a third coming up shortly. In my case the first scar was pubis to just above naval, second pubis to sternum, they completely excised the original scar and it looks much neater than the original and no problems with healing. The first wound had staples, the second an internal, dissolvable, continious sutre which was much better.

I had a second surgery for OVCA, 1st 10/05 2nd was 4/07, so it isn't the same as yours.  they did however use the same incision, even to get to the diaphram.  They put a chest tube in through the abdomen rather than the chest.  They do due a second debulking after they shrink the tumor size to help improve the outlook, however I don't know much about the decisions.  Work on building up your strenght and getting through the chemo. Best wishes to you, thoughts are with you

Hi,  Had 1st surgery 5/05. Had 5 rounds carbo/taxol. Remission for 11 months. 2nd surgery with debulking 11/06.  2nd was bad. Found cancer everywhere. Did not use same scar. Have developed several hernia's that are really borthering me.  They put in two ports-one in abdomen, one in upper right chest. Had ONE intraperitoneal treatment in Jan of taxol/cisplatin. Was bad. Said I could not tolerate treatment. Dud?  Have been getting gemzar & carbo since Feb. Think I am thru. depending on CA125 I had this week.  However, I think the scar thing is up to the surgeon.  If you are not seeing a GYN-ONO, please try to find one before 2nd surgery.  Good luck & God bless.
