Medium to large cyst

I went to the doctor for pain and nausea and they performed a ct scan.  On the right where I had my pain they found a tiny 3mm nonobsructing calculus in my kidney- the pain felt like a kidney stone- on the left though they found a mass 8.7x8.0x6.2 cm on my ovary.  There was also a very small amount of free fluid in my abdomen.  So I saw my regular doctor and he went to look at the ct because it didn't say whether it was a cyst or atumor.  He and the radiologist concluded it was a tumor.  I saw a gynecologist one month later and she said I needed an ultrasoundbefore she could determine anything- I had to wait a whole month longer before i got the results back from that.  So yesterday i saw her and she said its a simple cyst and its nothing to worry about come back in 3 or 4 motnhs and we'll  see if its changed.  The ultrasound says "the study demonstrates a 4.5x5.8x6.1 cyst within the left ovary which appears simple in configuration" it also found "right ovary demonstrates a small hysiologic-appearing cyst.  i have an endometrial stripe of 3 mm.  I have periods for two or three weeks out of every month and have for over a year.  I am nausaeous and bloated a lot and I still get hat intense pain a few days a week.  I am on ortho tri cyclen lo.  i am 29 and have no other health problems.  I am freaked out that I might have cancer and no one s doing anything about it but they all say no its fine it'll just go away- except if its cancer but there's only a 1% chance of that so. . . so I have an appointment in two weeks to get a seond opinion but I wanted to know what anyone thinks.  Am I just overreacting?

I would get an opinion from a Gyn/Onc. They are more experienced and even if you don't have cancer, they may give you some very good advise.  As I say you're special so why not see a specialist. There are many Gyn/Onc that perform surgery on women that don't have cancer. Having these many periods during the month with pain is no good.

Please don't freak out that you have cancer but do yourself a big favor and get an opinion from a good Gyn/Onc.

Good luck.

It appears that the mass (tumor or cyst - all words are interchangable) has shrunk which is always positive and it being simple is also another a good sign.  Could what you are feeling be side effects from the Pill that you are on????

You might have cancer, but, I doubt it. OvCa is rare and even rarer at your age (although it does and can happen)...most OvCa cysts are benign, well over 90 percent.

The doctor seems to be following what is common protocol...come back in a couple of months to see what is happening.  I would personally fell more comfortable with the response from my GYN regarding my ovaries vs my internist.  If you are not happy with the response from the GYN, then maybe think about a 2nd opinion.  It is common to have women return for additional scans after a cyst has been discovered.

Good luck and keep us posted.
