Recurrent ovarian cancer - chemo experiences

Hi,

My mom's ovarian cancer has recurred after a 13-month remission.  Her initial treatment for her Stage III-C diagnosis was a combination of cisplatin and taxol, administered by both IV and IP.

Her oncologist sees two nodules in the area of her liver and colon, plus a worrisome spot on her spleen.  He is recommending a treatment of carboplatin combined with either doxil or gemcitabine/Gemzal.

Has anyone received this combination of drugs for a recurrence?  Can you let me know about side effects, effectiveness, anything else relevant?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

My mom too recurred after 12 months.  She has had a platinum free interval of 13 months.   Her oncologist has started her on a combination of Doxil and Carboplatin.  There is some very promising data on this combination based on a large trial in UK.

The trial was a Phase III trial.  Below is a link to a publication on this trial.

google "calypso trial ovarian cancer" and you will get more information on this combination.
