New Here and a little worried

I started having abdominal pain after a recent fall.  I actually thought I had jarred mybladder loose.  Anyway the doc ordered an ultrasound.  As soon as it was done the tech said we are going to show this to the radiologist and be right back.  After sometime she came back and said we found no damage around your bladder but you do have a cyst on your ovary that is almost twice the size of your ovary.  She said the radiologist would be calling my doctor this am with this information.  Now I have always heard that ovarian cysts are not cancerous.  Am I wrong?  Can they be?  I'm feeling alittle anxious like many of you have probably felt.  I just need some reassurance before the doc calls.
Thanks

I am 46 and and have been through menopause.  I had a hystrectomy(sp) last September.  I'll try to say calm.  It's just hard but all of you know that and I will let you know what I find out.  Thank you

Hi,

My sister also had an ovarian cyst and it was covering her right cyst.  This of course was causing alot of pain especially during her period. the cyst of course was not cancerous.  She had it removed and now she has no complications.  the thing with cysts are that you can get them again.  I hope everything goes well for you and the dr has good news for you.  Am sure he will and try to stay calm.

Agree with all the above.. You didn't mention your age, but it does make a difference . From what I've learned here, Ovarian Cysts are quite common before menopause.. After menopause, they may be looked at slightly differently.

The scary thing about going online and putting "ovarian cysts" in the search is that the first thing that pops up is Ovarian Cancer and that's not always the case by a long shot.

You'll find that lots of us had cysts and fortunately they were benign...Let us know what your doctor advises.. Good luck, Sandy

Ovarian cysts can be benign or malignant but the majority (over 90%) are benign.  A lot depends on your age and what type of cyst it is - functional, dermoid, etc.  Your doctor hopefully will let you know if there is anything to be concerned about.  You can google "ovarian cysts" to get more information so you know what questions to ask at your appointment.  Please let us know how it goes.  Good luck, Chris P

Most ovarian cysts are benign....over 90 plus percent, especially in pre-menopausal women.  Ovarian Cancer cannot be detected by sonogram, or any test except for an actual biopsy.
Let us know what the GYN says....and try hard not to panic.
