New patch for nausea and vomiting aka chemo

Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting: A New Option to Control It
Monday October 6, 2008
Based on recent favorable Phase III clinical trial results, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Granisetron Transdermal System (Sancuso) for control of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. The drug itself, Granisetron, perhaps better know to you as Kytril, has been available for over 15 years in the US.

What is new is that this is now available as a patch that can be applied to the skin before chemo. Even better, it continues to release medication consistently into the bloodstream, through the skin, over a number of days. That way you don't have to worry about taking a pill when you may be nauseated. We already know the drug itself is very well tolerated with few side effects, the main ones being headache, dizziness, and possible constipation. Overall, it has great potential to improve comfort and quality of life. An option to think about and ask about.

This comes from the OTHER ovarian cancer forum that I frequent.. its a new forum... much good info and a doctor that runs the forum so your questions can be answered.. It is NOT for cysts or hysterectomy questions.. It is ONLY for those diagnosed with or those who wish to support their family that has ovarian cancer... for more info contact me thru a private message....

This is not instead of MEdhelp its along with....

they gave this to Leslee, once she was in Hospice, a small round patch about the size of a quarter, placed right below the ear on the neck, it worked so well for her, her vomiting stopped and never recurred.  It is a time release and each patch lasts  about 72 hours.

Good to know.  It is hard taking a pill when you are throwing up and the suppositories work well, but they make me so sleepy.  Is there one drug in the whole entire world that doesn't have side effects?
Thanks Ronni,
Jan
