Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.....HELP

September is TEAL Month  ( National Ovarian Cancer Month ) and I was thinking that if everyone on this forum emailed or wrote to their local papers/ radio stations and /or favorite womens magazine, tv talk show ; asking if they are planning any articles or features on detection / treatment-research / survivior stories on ovarian cancer  in September, perhaps we as a group could generate some much needed interest in this cancer. It would be important to email now before topics are chosen for Sept.  I have already started and knocked off 20 publications this week.  Withe

During the whole month of Sept, the stylists at my salon will be sporting ovarian cancer awareness pins everyday as well as donating some of our profits to ovarian cancer research. :)

Thank you for the reminder, that is a very good idea.  Oh, did you all do the call in on July10th?  I forgot to ask about that. We all really must do more.  When I wrote to my congressmen and senators about the bill for addtional federal funding for OVCA research, I got a generic letter back from one congressman who said that cancer research was important to him for humanitarian reasons but also because he was a cancer survivor and wanted to see funding increase for cancer research.  However, he did not mention anything about signing THIS legislation so he said to call his office if I have anything to add and I am going to do just that.  They are tricky little buggers and you have to watch how they say things.  I am going to find out where he stands on this and how he votes for these kinds of things.  I want him to vote for this particular piece of legislation not just support more cancer research in general. I am also going to find out where the others stand on this issue and just what their voting records are on this.  Being an election year, this is a good time to let Washington know how we feel and by supporting those of whatever party that support more research dollars for OVCA we can do just that.  If you neglect your DUTY to vote, thank you forfeit your right to b!tch  about the government.  Register today if you haven't already.

Deandra, that is a wonderful idea.  Maybe we could all get our stylists or their salons to do the same.  Never hurts to ask.

I have continued my quest this week focusing  on CT news stations and newspapers. Next on the list to tackle  more women's mags and then, tv talk shows.
Hopefully, together we can generate  enough  interest this year  about Sept being Ovarian Cancer Awareness month that everyone will come to know the TEAL ribbon. If our efforts gets one woman to her gyno early enough or generates one dollar more for research we will be rewarded. Withe

I suck at words so if anyone drafts up a generic letter I'll make a ton of copies and help out.

I have emailed Oprah, others should too,  as there is power in numbers.

Here is a sample E-mail... Hope this helps.

Heading.... September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Message: With Sept. just around the corner, I was wondering if you were planning any features on ovarian cancer. There is new research, detection methods, longer survivorship and treatments to report on. It would be nice to see a month of TEAL information. Thank-you, ( your name )
