Hi Sue, I was diagnosed with Low Malignant Potential (LMP) Serous Stage 1 Borderline ovarian cancer in 2002. My frozen section at surgery came back borderline, the final pathology came back borderline, and my dr recommended a second opinion on the pathology as borderline is a tricky diagnosis. There are different types of borderline as well and one called MPSC is more agressive. My 3rd pathology was done by a pathologist that specialized in gynological pathology. I also made certain to get a copy of the surgical report, and both pathologies, just for my records. Especially if you`re looking online it helps to have the official diagnosis.
I had follow-ups every 6 mos for 5 years, with a yearly ct scan and now just have yearly visits - no ct scan. I was 33 at diagnosis and had no children so they opted not to do a hysterectomy at my first surgery. It was recommended that I have a hysterectomy within a few years. I had it a year and a half later. Now it seems borderline ovca diagnosis is increasing and they don`t necessarily recommend hysterectomies anymore for it.
I would contact your oncologist that you had for breast cancer, they`ll likely want to have copies of the report.
As the person above recommended it would be good to see a gynological oncologist if you haven`t already - just for a follow-up as well.
Good Luck to you.
LMP Borderline rarely reoccurs after surgery and even if it does is usually followed up with surgery only. Because this is a very slow growing cancer , chemo doesn`t work on it and it is not necessary.
Take care,
Debbie
Hi,
from your post I am assuming that you had a borderline tumor. I also had a borderline tumor and I had a hysterectomy and oopherectomy( removal of my ovaries). My doctors recommeded that I have a ct scan, CEA test and ca-125 test every three months for the 1st year and then every four months for the next year. I went to MD Anderson for a second opinion and they agreed with my doctor. I would highly recommend you double check with a gynological oncologist about any follow up...especially since you have had breast cancer. There are different types of borderline tumors...so your doctors may recommend different follow up. I always encourage a second opinion.
