Ovarian Dermoid

I was just told that I have a Left Ovarian Dermoid.    Can anyone tell me that has been diagnosed with the same, what the symptoms are?   I have been experiencing lots of low back pain and leg pain and numbness and  pain during menstration.   Can I attribute all of these to the dermoid?   Any help or assistance is appreciated!!

Thanks.

I had a 10cm teratoma.  Occasionally, before I would have a period, I'd have horrible pain there that would last about an hour.  The last time though, the pain lasted for 24 hours and I went to the emergency room.  That's when they found it.  They think mine leaked because the pain radiated to my left armpit when I would lie down.  It was horrible, horrible pain. But I don't remember having it go to my legs.

Teratomas (dermoid cysts) are almost always benign.  I was told they happen when an egg gets trapped and starts to grow.  They can be made up of teeth, hair, muscle tissue, skin tissue, etc.

Occasionally, a cancer might grow in one, like skin cancer on the tissue inside.  But that's pretty rare.  Regardless, are you thinking of having it taken out?  I'd want it out.  I got mine out within a week of the discovery, in addition to my uterus.

Hi Shellbri,  when I had a dermoid in my right ovary I had alot of numbness and pain in that area along with my leg, I remember the shooting pain going down to my leg. It is painful and I found applying heat to it helped for me. Sorry you are going through this did the doc perscribe you anything?

Yes, it is very possible that all of your symptoms are due to this dermoid.
