Hi there,
After menopause, it is common to see small benign ovarian cysts. They are not related to ovulation and menstrual cycle as you are past that stage in your life.
Some cysts may be related to a malignancy. The decision to remove the cyst and or ovary will depend on the particular person , the size of the cyst, whether it is changing, family history, symptoms, and so on.
It is perfectly reasonable to remove this cyst at your age. But repeating an ultrasound in a short interval as VF1 suggests is also reasonable
best wishes
hi, I wonder why your gyne doesnt think it will go away? I think it would be wise to have a further scan in a month and see if it has changed in size. If it is growing, i would suggest removal by form of laparoscopy. If it is shrinking, I would prefer to keep monitoring it monthly. I have just had laparoscop 9 days ago for ovarian cyst that started at 5cm and grew to near on 14cm within 6months. I have previous history of large cysts so assumed this one too would grow so decided to get it out. I would say thou, having not had an op for 6 yrs, I had forgotten how much it does take it out of you, make sure someone is around to help post op - scars are tiny thou! quite amazing really! gd luck with it all.
I have been posting like mad trying to get info about my daughter's mass near her left ovary. And you (money60) so far seem to have the most similar situation that I can see. Did the doctor's call your cyst a "multiseptated cystic lesion" at any time. And if you know what that means could you tell me? My daughter is 8 months old and I am frightened to death that this means she could have a serious disease. The mass was found via ultrasound when they were looking for bladder reflux. They did a second ultrasound to try and pin point whether it was fluid filled or solid and whether it was on/in/near the ovary. Because she is so little they can't tell so we are now going to go to a CT scan Thursday and see a surgeon mid August. The cystic mass was first measured at 2.4cm on July10 and then measured 3 cm on July 22, is this a fast growth or not? Doctors won't say anything because they don't know what it is and they don't want to give us misinformation. I am not trying to take the light off of your serious situation either but I am looking for someone that has similar issues. PLEASE give me any info you may have. Thank you!
I am at the moment awaiting surgery for suspicious cystic mass on left ovary, my tumour markers are in normal range, it was discovered by ultra sound 3month ago it has took 7weeks ago for the consultant to arrange surgery, I have been told that on biopsy if it is cancer I may have to have bowel removal and lymph nodes removed, can I take the length of time taken as not being that urgent with optomism. I did have a dermoid cyst on the other ovary some years back which was not malignant large like the one at the moment.
Would appreciate feedback. Cathy77
Thanks for the advise. The radiologist has noted this cyst might have shown in one of the utrasound report (whether pelvic or kidney) in 2005 that has increased in size very slowly. I decide to repeat the utrasound in a month and in another 5 months if the grow is slow then consider of surgical option.
