Ovarian cysts elevated Ca-125 pending surgery

Is it possible to have a elevated CA-125 and it be hemorragic ovarian cysts?  This week what started as I thought a stomach bug has turned into surgery to remove cysts and possibly my ovary(ies).  I'm 36 yrs. old and at the beginning of the week I woke early in the morning with upset stomach and a little diarrhea.  Then I had a little pain over in my right lower quad and  small bm.  By the middle of the week I had doubled over with pain in myat I can describe as contraction like pain.  I also didn't have a bowel movement without ducolax or ex lax.  By Thursday I went to the doctor he took blood for cbc, he thought it was my appendix. It wasn't, then scheduled me for a pelvic ultrasound. It showed I have ovarian cysts, fibroids in my uterus and cystic areas in my uterus what ever that means?  So I let my gyno know this and he wanted to see me that day.  He ordered a Ca-125 and checked the cysts   with a pelvic.  I told him about my sudden change in bowels, that the pain was not making me double over.  Now it is tender.  Then the test came back the next day at an 88 he said it was slightly elevated.  He also said it was most likely caused by. the hemorragic cysts.  He has scheduled me for surgery on Monday to remove the cysts and right ovary if necessary.  I'm sorry this is so long but I'm very nervous.  Any info that anyone can pass along would be  helpful.

No he hasn't been monitoring the cysts. Although I have cysts in the past it has been quite a while since I've had any.  I've never had to have a surgery for them.  I had the NovaSure procedure and don't have much of a period and had my tubes tied.  If that makes a difference in monitering cysts. It only lasts a day or two and is hardly there sometimes.  He's going on the basis that I had extreme pain, the blood test, what the report showed-blood filled cysts on my right side( where the pain is), he said the fibroid on my uterus was smaller than a dime so I don't know if he's doing anything with that and he never mentioned the cystic areas on my uterus. Maybe even the fact my bowels have changed.  He reassured me that he believed it was the cysts causing the elevation.  He said he would take what he had to, I told him to take it all :) Thank you for all and advice.

Hi
Many things can elevate the ca125 test, Fibroids , cysts and endometriosis to mention just a few. Cysts can cause a lot of symptoms including the pain you mention, sometimes cysts leak a little and this can cause horrible pain.
Has your doctor been monitoring the cysts ? , most do for a few cycles to see if they resolve by themselves. It does sound like you have a great doc who is taking you seriously and acting quickly , try not to worry too much as the chance of this being anything other than what you doctor suspects is very small , infact only 5% of cysts turn out to be malignant.
There is a cyst forum that you may want to visit, there you will find a lot of information.
Good luck and let us know how you get on
Best wishes
Angie
