Hi .

Can you please tell me if I have 20cm cyst on ovary is it a must to loose that affected ovary or is there any way to save the ovary .What are the chances of saving the ovary .Please reply.Thank you .

Hi - I was hoping someone more education than I on the subject would answer some of these questions for you.  I don't know a lot about cysts, but I think you can have a small amount of free fluid nearby if one has ruptured recently.  I would think the fact that you have a small amount is a good sign, certainly better than a report stating that you have a significant amount.  Good luck with your doctor's appointment tomorrow.  Let us know how you're doing :)

Can they tell if the cyst has developed on the ovary or in the ovary from the u/s or it has to be when they go in...im going tomorrow to my oncologist because i have a fibroid on my uterus and a cyst on one ovary and a septated cyst on the other ovary and im very nervous.
I have been cramping for 2 days again which means im going to start bleeding soon i bleed twice a month and i dont know why.
Also if anyone has information on what minimal free fluid means and what you think causes the cramping in my bikini line has well has a feeling of fullness in my vagina..PLEASE IF YOU HAVE INFO I GREATLY APPRICATE IT!!..

So true.  I had two softball sized dermoids along with my left ovary and 90% of my right ovary removed.  Even that little 10% of an ovary is functioning fine.  Try to get a 2nd opinion with a gyn/onc.  They are specialists and have seen it all.  They have more experience to handle the situation.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

I wanted to save what amount could be saved because I did not want to go through medical menopause.  I did for a while until the little bit of an ovary kicked in.  I developed a functional cyst on it, but it did resolve on it's own.  My dr will do annual vag ultra sounds to keep an eye on things.  I feel great and my hormone levels are good. I am lucky because I have a great dr and he really has my total wellbeing as a priority.

Gatsby ...you said you have just 10% of ovary left .Is that possible?Are there any risks associated with it?Can you tell me what your doctor told you about your ovary staus before surgery ?Has anyone heard of this method of saving ovary before . If so please tell me .Thank you.

Aligator's right... It depends on how the cyst has grown. If it's on the ovary, then there's a better chance that they can remove just the cyst. If it's into the ovary, then they usually remove the whole ovary because there's a chance of recurrence if they leave any cyst tissue/cells behind.
Your other ovary will completely take over.... as I've heard from the other ladies on the site that have had one removed, apparently you don't even realize that it's gone.

Hi,  from what I have found, it really depends on how the cyst has formed around the ovary.  I'm 26 and had a softball sized dermoid cyst removed 8/18 by laparotomy and lost the entire ovary and fallopian tube. My doctor believed she could save the ovary until she got in there and saw exactly how it was formed.  The just wasn't any ovary left to save.  Most doctors will do everything they can to keep the ovary, but sometimes they just can't.
